Our first stop was at French Creek to show them an old mine shaft...and then across the wash to the ancient mortars. Les and Sue in their new toy, a Massimo 250 Cowboy
We continued along the trails past Rainbow Acres...
Kellogg Mine on the left. Apparently this mine was the very first investment by the Kellogg cereal family. To the right is the Erdman mine...
The Erdman Mine...
And the Parade of Toilets...
Next up was the Yum Yum Mine...a spot, like most others, we have checked out each year. However, this year we found it had been completely bulldozed. At first, we thought it was just the road up to it, so we parked our quads and started walking up...then Steve realized the entrance had also been covered over. This is what it looks like now...what a bummer! This was the only mine in the area that we know of that you could walk into for quite a ways. It's all about safety I guess.
Here are two pictures from last January when we were here...this is the entrance...
And this is the mummified remains of some animal that Steve and Jim(and Barb) had found inside...
Arriving at the stone cabin near Dome Rock...
Where we stopped for lunch and snacks. This too has changed. You used to be able to walk through the cabins, The one on the right used to have a roof so we would have lunch in there for the shade, but over time it was caving in. It's all been cleaned up and is now fenced off...
And then we continued on through the hills...
We only saw a couple of other 4 wheelers on the trails...
At times you have to grab your flag to get under the trees...
This Saguaro looks like it's ready to grab Steve
Another stone cabin...
Les found the geocache hidden here!
And our final stop...Beer Belly's Adult Daycare!
Gotta wash that dust down! We think Les and Sue enjoyed their inaugural ride of the sites and trails!
After a drink, we said goodbye to Les and Sue...they were going into town to the bike shop before heading home. We went back to the wash to find another way back into La Posa West...our usual route back to La Posa South. When we had tried to take the route to Beer Belly's, we found a steep cliff and drop off...the power of rushing water in the wash! Steve quickly found a new access...how did we miss that on our way to Beer Belly's?
Arriving at the wash that runs behind our camp...
You can just make out the flag of a rig camped out on the right. Camping along a wash is preferable for the views, wildlife, privacy and less dust...
Almost home!
We're able to access our site right from the wash behind us. There is a fire pit behind us and another in front...
Earl and Allison aren't coming down this year but were kind enough to lend us their poop mobile...we just had to pay the $115 storage fee. Sure beats moving the rig every week to dump. Art and Jan picked it up from storage quite some time ago to save on storage costs. Thanks to all!
I was quite a ways behind Steve...it is so dusty due to the lack of rain!
View of the huge wash behind our rig, most of which is behind those trees...
Steve fuelled up the quads while I dusted off our helmets, put them away and plugged our radios and GPSs in to charge. We're quite happy with our new tires, they seem to give us a softer ride.
Time for a shower...and then some relaxation! A great day out on the quads!
Sounds like you had a fun day, Beer belly's is a good place to wash down the dust. So many great places to explore on a Quad.
