Several trucks were promptly loaded...14/vehicle...and we were soon on our way. Our truck driver/guide's name was Rick...he was excellent!
Tours to the Upper Antelope Canyon last 90-100 minutes from start to finish. the drive to the canyon takes 20 minutes; 40 mins drive time - 50/60 mins spent at the canyon. After we depart from our office to the Canyon in our 4-wheel drive Tour Truck you will come off the truck and walk inside the canyon with your tour guide(driver). Whilst on tour you can take pictures, hear some local history and time for you to enjoy the beauty. To enter the canyon is Very easy - we just simply walk right in (ground level). There are no heights involved, we will be looking upwards - the canyon walls are up to 100 ft.
Steve snapped a couple of pictures along the way...
Off the road and onto gravel/sand for the last stretch to the canyon...
And here we are!
At the start Rick explained the various settings for phone cameras and the DSLR cameras. Steve normally leaves his set to "keep it simple stupid" settings so didn't have enough time to figure it out. Luckily the new Lightroom Photo Editing program saved a few and I got some with my phone...
The colours were ever changing with the shadows and sunlight...
Here we are at the end of the canyon...time to turn around and walk back. Deb, you look so serious!
The tour was absolutely fascinating...and the colours incredible! Inside the canyon was a little crowded at times with so many tour groups...especially when you had folks coming from the opposite direction. Poor Rick had a heck of a time trying to keep our group together...and back out of the canyon to the truck...he had time constraints, after all.
As we were waiting for the rest of the group to come out of the canyon, Rick showed us how the canyon was formed. He made a mound out of the sand, made a small indent in the top and poured just a little water from my water bottle into it.
Then he scooped out the wet sand held together perfectly by the water...
With everyone loaded back onto the truck, we were on our way back into Page...a few more pictures of the ride back...
Mmmmm...this looks like a yummy place...Big John's Texas BBQ. Note the semi truck exhaust stacks for chimneys...
After a dusty, bumpy ride back into town (I think Rick was in a hurry LOL), we decided to stop in at the Dam Bar and Grille for a cold beer...which happened to be in the same plaza where the tour company was located. A nice little spot...and the beer sure tasted good!
And, finally, a few pictures on the way back to Lone Rock. The bridge we crossed next to the Glen Canyon Dam...
We noticed a lot of smoke coming in from the southwest...must be a wildfire burning nearby. Once home, we checked on-line and all we could find out was that there were some controlled burns happening in the area...
Smoke coming in over the lake...
And the end to another fabulous day...there is so much to see in this area. Love it!
Never get tired of looking a pictures of the canyons, very cool that Ray was able to attend as well!
