Thursday, January 19, 2012 (BLM La Posa South Camp, Quartzsite, AZ)

After our usual start to the day, Steve went out to offload the ATVs from the truck while I attempted to post yesterday’s blog.  It took quite awhile since the internet connection on our Rogers rocket stick is very, very slow.  But eventually, it was all done and we were ready to get on with our day.

Also, while Steve was outside, Earl dropped by with a bag of fresh grapefruit he had just picked up at the market...a little “welcome” gift, how nice!  He also lent Steve a map of the ATV trails in the area.  I scanned and printed them, so we have them for any future trips to the area.

We rode our ATVs into Quartzsite...we found out later that it was actually the south side and there is much, much more to see on the north side of the I-10 highway.  After finding a place to park the quads, we joined the crowds wandering along Kuehn Street.  It is really just a big flea market...or garage sale...with people selling all sorts of things.

Not much traffic on this road right now but just wait until a little later!

Am I impressed, or what?...Lots and lots of lovely stones...

Too bad one of us didn't stand beside these when the picture was taken...to give some perspective on how big they are...the one piece is sitting on a regular sized pallet...tbe picture also doesn't do justice; the crystals inside are very beautiful...



After about 2 ½ hours of wandering around, we had had enough for today...we’ll continue tomorrow.  And the actual RV show doesn’t even start until Saturday...but we will wait until early next week before we check it out. 

On our way home, we checked out more of the vast camping area here...and this area is just one of four camp areas in the La Posa BLM area.  There is an Allegro Class A Motorhome rally happening...

It`s interesting, people line their ``yards`` with rocks, making driveways and generally marking off their territory...too funny...

It was 4:00 by the time we got home...it was a hot day (our thermometer read 78F/25C) so we quickly changed into our shorts and set up the chairs outside.  We invited our neighbours, Earl and Alison (from Royston, BC), to join us for a beer...and after a bit, Doc and Pat joined us.  They are friends of Earl and Alison’s from Redding, California and had just arrived today, setting up their camp just across from us.

We enjoyed our visit with them, learning so much more about the area...it’s great hooking up with people who have been here and know the area.  It wasn’t long before the sun went down behind a mountain and it quickly got very chilly, so we called it an evening and everyone headed off.  We have been invited to go for an ATV ride with them this Saturday...we are really looking forward to it!
