Sunday, August 19, 2018 - Part 2 (Nature Ocean Chalets and Camping, Perce, Quebec)

After Steve had finally decided he had taken enough Northern Gannet pictures, we continued on the trail (we are now on the King's Way Trail)...and low and behold, there's more and more gannets! This area has a viewing tower...
Didn't see any whales...just thousands of gannets!
Steve climbed up to the top of the tower, while I only went to the first landing. This is the view to the left...
View down...
And a lot of black flies!
View to the right...
The trail we'll be taking...
Panorama shot...
Time to continue along the trail...(looking back at the tower)...
Lots more stairs...going down this time...

What a beautiful cove...
Large section of boardwalks...
Grey seals from viewpoints along the trail...

Divers checking out the seal population?
Seals checking out the divers...
More boardwalk and stairs...

A tour boat...
More divers...
Describing the grey seals...
Grey Seal sunning itself...
No shortage of grey seals around the island!

Tour boat passing by the seals...
This fella isn't too happy about the others eyeing up his resting spot...

Brochet House...
Kittie Bruneau House...

Ringing the bell..
The Duval House.
This house, built in 1912 by William Duval out of materials from his grandfather’s home, Peter-Nicholas Duval, had deteriorated considerably in recent years. This new building, restored using the original plans and techniques, keeps the story of the whole William Duval family alive. This passionate man was the keeper of the island’s bird sanctuary, and one of the first to band Northern Gannets. He was also in charge of the post office and ran a ferry to bring artists and photographers to the island.

This year, the park has restored 24 of the 25 houses on the island, fulfilling its mission to preserve the built heritage and to keep the rich history of Île Bonaventure alive for the benefit of future generations.
These plaques talking about the DuVal family were on the side of the house...

Looks like this will be the last house to get fixed up...
Almost back to the dock now...

We arrived back from where we had started just after 1:30...enough time to sit and relax for a bit before catching the 2:00 boat back to Perce. Steve found more picture-worthy sights while we waited...

Northern Gannet beginning it's dive...
Wings back...
Splash down!
Must be lots of feed there...
Here comes our boat...the gannets could care less...
Another tour boat checking out Percé Rock...

As we got off the boat, we notice a large crowd gathering in an area just off the dock...a little line dancing going on...
Just a short distance from the line dancers, and up some stairs to the main street, we found an outdoor bar/restaurant with live music. It was packed but we managed to find a couple of chairs against the wall and a couple sitting at an adjacent table that let us use a corner of it.
Most songs were in French of course but he did do a couple in English including a Creedence Clearwater song...
This was the busiest place in town!
We enjoyed the music, a little people watching, and a cold brew, then made our way to catch the shuttle back home.

Ahhhhhhh.....what an absolutely fabulous day!
