What a beautiful travel day!
Coming down into Gaspe...
We took a short section of highway 132 instead of the shortcut that connects back up with 132, thinking it would be more scenic...other than a couple of spots...not really...should have taken the shortcut.
Finally incredible scenery along the coastal highway 132!
Another view point not big rig friendly...
Our first glimpse of Perce Rock...way in the distance...
Love the stonework on this home...
Colourful restaurant...
Of course, there has to be some road construction along the way...
Malbaie River...a camper in the distance...
Are you kidding me...17%!! We are amazed at how steep many of the roads are...
This was the most braking Steve has ever had to do, even using a lower gear with exhaust brake engaged...Wow...what a view though! Perce with Perce Rock on the left and Bonaventure Island in the distance...
We got a taste of the very touristy Perce as we drove through...
...to the west side and our destination, Nature Ocean Chalets and Camping...
We pulled in, stopping at the office. After talking with Jason, he had a colleague (a French only speaking lady) take us in a car to show us two sites. Our first impression of the campground is yikes! The roads are very narrow and lumpy. But it's a huge campground with well spaced sites on open grass. After seeing both options, we chose site 71...the other, site 144, was very un-level and a very long drive high up to the backside of the campground.
After confirming our choice and paying at the office, we headed up to our site. The site is set up so that you can go on either side of the service pole...that's how much room there is between sites. Since we wanted our back window facing toward the water (and view), Steve drove through the site and managed to back up and pull in the other way. Then he backed in on the other side of the services pole. It took a bit of time to get it all figured out but we finally got situated perfectly!
We got all set up and since it was a relatively short drive, we had most of the afternoon left. So Steve decided to re-caulk one side of the overhang of the trailer...and I baked some muffins.
With the work all done, it was time to sit outside...
It was sunny out but definitely cool with the breeze, so we ended up moving our chairs into the sunshine. Ahhhhh...love this spot!
More beautiful sights and sites, you guys are certainly making the most of your trip our east!
ReplyDeleteSo much to see and do before the weather turns.
DeleteNice spot. Did your exhaust brake squeal on that 17% hill? or is finally fixed?
ReplyDeleteActually we don’t recall if it squealed...it was so long ago. 🤔 It has a mind of its own and still squeals on some hills and not others.
DeleteI can't believe the grades you've encountered this summer, crazy! Glad you're having a great journey across Canada, can't wait to do that ourselves someday.
ReplyDeleteIt's been great trip! Looking forward to seeing you in Q!
