Tuesday, August 21, 2018 - Part 1 (RV Camping, Restigouche River, Campbellton, New Brunswick)

We had a very busy day today...and you got it, we're separating the day into 2 blog posts again.
The day started off with fog over the river....but it didn't stick around long...

This morning we thought we'd check out Sugarloaf Provincial Park and go for a hike on one of the many trails. Following our GPS we made our way, and got to see some of Campbellton along the way...

That's our destination...to the top of  Sugarloaf Mountain...

After a stop at the information centre to find out more about the trails...

...we drove over to the trail head and parked. There was a small picturesque lake nearby...

We started off on the Terry Fox Memorial Trail..

That's their ski hill...not nearly as steep as the ones we have out west...

Gradual uphill for most of the way...

Although the Terry Fox Trail does a complete loop around the base of the mountain, at just about the halfway mark, we took the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail that goes to a viewpoint. It's only about .6 km but it is straight up! Yup, I'm geared up with both knee braces again...

It's getting rockier...and steeper...

Okay no more steps...

Walking uphill is one thing but all I could think about is "how the heck am I going to get back down?"  My knees don't much like going downhill...oh well, I'll manage!

Okay, this is getting a little extreme!

Seriously?? (Steve got some great butt shots of me....LOL!) Never seen a stairway like this before...the screen stops you from slipping off the bars...

We made it! There was a platform with an interpretive plaque ...

The Moncton shooting was a string of shootings that took place on June 4, 2014, in Moncton, in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. Justin Bourque, a 24-year-old from Moncton, shot five officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, killing three and severely injuring two.

After a rest and some water, it was time to head back down. It was slow going. I didn't think I'd like going down this but it wasn't too bad....it's really a lot steeper than it looks in the picture...

This was fun...

We made it! That was about 6.5 km/4 mile hike, with 1.2 kms straight up/down! This sign shows the area....X marks the mountain trail...

We gladly climbed into the truck to sit...that was a fabulous hike, but we were hot and tired! Time to go home, freshen up...and move onto the next thing on our agenda!
