We were on the road by 8:15 this morning...back on highway 95 heading north. It was a beautiful travel day! Here are some pictures I took along the way.
Leaving Walker Lake...
Looks like snow on the sides of the highway but it's salt...
We passed some very cool old cars going in the other direction...
We stopped in Winnemucca, NV to fuel up with diesel...$2.27/gallon (with our Flying J card). We ate lunch, got the two propane tanks filled...and were back on the road north after about 40 minutes...
Old aircraft and tanks...
This looks like a popular dune area for weekend 4-wheelers...
Lots of horses...
As you can see, we lost our blue sky and sunshine as we approached the Nevada/Oregon border. We pulled over for a break at McDermitt...
Beautiful scenery as we drove through southeastern Oregon...
This is the Rome boat launch/camping area that was our planned destination for tonight. Unfortunately, it looked like it was pretty full (glad we could see from the highway before driving in), so we carried on to our "plan b" spot a little further down the highway.
Our second choice for tonight was at Antelope Reservoir but a look at the narrow dirt road heading in (which we understood was about a mile), we said nope to that...and continued on. Now was the time that we really could use internet to check out more spots along our route, but wouldn't you know it, no signal. So all we could do was drive and hope that we'd get a signal but no luck.
Not sure what this is but we passed it in Jordan Valley...must have some historical significance...
About 4:15 we came across this large pull-out area just before the Welcome to Idaho sign. We wanted to stay in Oregon for the night :-) Although we still didn't have WiFi or cell service, we decided to stop anyway...8 hours on the road was long enough!
This is the view out our back window...
We leveled off and then I did a minimal set-up inside while Steve got the propane tank out so we could hook up our heater...it was chilly! So glad we have it.
Highway 95 is obviously a popular route for truckers...perhaps not as busy as the interstates but still very busy...just hoping we don't have one join us tonight and leave it's engine running!
