Well...yesterday it was RC airplanes...today it's classic cars...Steve's kind of weekend! The Torque Masters Car Show is taking over Beacon Avenue, the main street in Sidney, today...Sidney is set to be the venue of an “auto-extravaganza” Aug. 11, thanks to the Torque Masters Car Club. Beacon Avenue will become an open-air showroom for more than 300 classic cars, during the 2019 Sidney Summer Car Show. “It’s an exciting mix of classic cars, hot rods, customized cars – there’s a bit of new and a bit of old”...

So I dropped Steve off to wander the street looking at and taking pictures of all the cars (warning: lots of pictures!). I'll pass this over to him now...

With over 300 cars I mostly took photos of the older vehicles which I personally think are works of art...

This is the car I acquired in my teens and had for about 10 years until I sold it to a buddy in 1983...a 1967 Acadian Canso with a 283 engine. It was originally a metallic blue but I had it painted black with red and blue pin striping and Cragar mags...so other than the headlights and engine it looked identical to this...boy if that car could talk! My buddy Jim eventually sold it to my (recently married) brother Dave that lives in Thompson, Manitoba. Dave had it in storage for years but returned it to Vancouver Island about 3 years ago for a total restoration. It's been completely stripped down, a 327 engine added, suspension and brake modifications and more. The guy doing the restoration is doing it in his spare time so unfortunately the finish date keeps getting pushed back. Dave was hoping to have it ready for their wedding last month. The owner of this one wasn't very friendly when I told him I had one and my brother was having it restored on the island...

Even the back end of some of some of theses old cars had style...

I think it would be a bit of a chore getting stuff in and out of that trunk...
This car was a custom build with a Ranchero style back end...

A 1966 Acadian Canso...
There was a display of military vehicles outside the Legion...
This guy said he drove this up to the Yukon and Northwest Territories...

Time to turn around and check out the other side of the street. The car show took up 6 blocks of downtown Sidney plus some side streets...all the way to the pier...

This old beater is never going to be pretty...
Please slam door...

Lucky Bastard Vodka bottle...

After dropping him off, I went out to Rob and Angie's house to do laundry...and wait for a text telling me he was ready to be picked up. About an hour and a half later, I was back in Sidney gathering Steve from the street corner...and going back to the house so that he could water the gardens.

So it was a day of fun, mixed with a some chores...I would have joined Steve walking Beacon Avenue but my knee wouldn't have lasted that long.

    1. I thought we so too Dave. I guess he wants to be the only one on the planet with a black Canso.
