Sunday, September 16, 2018 (Travel to Casino New Brunswick, Moncton, NB)

This morning we spent some time discussing "where to" after Moncton (our destination today). We decided on Fundy National Park campground and I reserved a site. With that taken care of, it was time to pack up. We pulled out of Pine Hills RV Park just after 10:00.

It was a rather dull cloudy start to the day...
We are leaving Prince Edward Island via the 12.9km/8 mile long Confederation Bridge...cost $63. Remember you only have to pay to get off PEI and this is cheaper then the ferry.

A strange feeling being so far out over the ocean...

Approaching New Brunswick...

Once back on mainland New Brunswick, we took highway 15, making our way towards Moncton...

 Scoudouc River...
We pulled into Casino New Brunswick around 12:30, and found the RV parking around back...(and look...blue sky!)...
After levelling off, we unhitched and did a minimal set up...
After a bite to eat, we walked to the casino to get a rewards card and permit for overnight camping.

One of the highlights we wanted to see here in Moncton is the Tidal Bore. We researched the best place to see it...and then headed off to Bore View Park....A small park with benches and a balcony, a popular place to watch the tidal bore on the Peticodiac River.

The Tidal Bore in New Brunswick Canada, occurs along the Peticodiac River near Moncton & Riverview and is a naturally occurring phenomenon that is caused by the surging waters from the Bay of Fundy tides which are the highest tides in the world, that roar up the Peticodiac River twice daily during the changing tides.
The Tidal Bore creates a thick wave of water from the higher waters in the bay Bay of Fundy which run up the placid Peticodiac River and roll back upstream in one wave, which can vary in height from 3 cm (1 in.) to 60 cm (24 in.).
Just as spectacular is the rapid and dramatic change in the river itself. At low tide the muddy river bottom is often visible, but within an hour of the arrival of the Tidal Bore, the water level rises some 7.5 m (25 ft.), filling the river to its banks. Near full moons the tides are exceptionally strong which create very robust tidal bores that are amazing to witness and now surfers are enjoying riding the wave as it pushes up the Peticodiac River.
We were a little early, so walked around the small park....

Lots of people are starting to show up at the viewing area...
And here it comes! Prior to the wave showing up the surface of the water formed ripples like you would see from wind blowing across the surface...
We're approximately 27 km/17 miles from the Bay of Fundy!

The waves aren't big enough for the surfers today...

It was amazing to watch the slow natural flow of the river reverse direction, then have a more forceful current...
Steve took a 1:54 minute Go Pro video That was very cool and something we had never heard of before!

Here's a 2:37 minute video of surfers riding the Tidal Bore

After watching the tidal bore, we headed back to the casino. We passed this beautiful old building...

By the time we got home, it was time for drinks and dinner at the casino...so much for "free" camping at a casino LOL!
