Tuesday morning I went for a 2 mile walk while Steve showered. I have been taking it a little easier on my knees the last couple of days. Seems they didn't like my attempt to walk further and better my time...so I have been having to nurse them a bit.
At about 11:30 Dave and Cheryl came by to pick us up...and we headed off to Silly Al's for lunch. We had a great time visiting over a delicious lunch. Thanks for sending us your picture, Dave...both pictures taken on our cell were very blurry!
Back home, Steve got ready to run back into town to run a few errands...get his hair cut, fill drinking water containers and pick up a parcel at Quiet Times. While he was gone, I did a few chores around the trailer.
Wednesday morning Steve and Red headed off to join the work party preparing for Friday's annual Fun Fly at the Quartzsite Desert Flyers Airfield. They also wanted to get club photo of pilots and their planes.
About an hour after they left, Pam and I loaded our laundry into their truck and we were off to the laundromat for a fun filled time...LOL. After spending a couple of hours in a hot laundromat, we treated ourselves to lunch at the adjoining restaurant.
When I got home, Steve was busy on the phone taking care of a couple of things. One of which was trying to find a replacement garnish mount for the Fantastic fans...both have started cracking.
Thursday morning Steve and Red were off to the RC airfield again. Steve flew his plane...again, without incident. Whew...he returned home with it still in one piece!
The flu/cold seems to be making it's rounds to a lot of folks here. Barb has been down with it and Pam started feeling it today too. Brian, Gerry and Linda have also suffered through it. Red was just getting over it when they arrived at Q. Steve and I both had our flu shots in October but apparently there are 2 strains of the flu going around...the shot helps to some degree with one and not at all with the other. I have been doubling up on vitamin C...hope we can fight it off!
I spent most of my day sitting outside knitting....not very exciting but an enjoyable time for me!
Late in the afternoon, Steve headed off with Red in the Rhino to the empty desert behind us. Red was having unknown issues with this plane or transmitter so wanted to test it out.
Unfortunately after a quick take off it went out of control and into a rapid dive busting off the nose and propeller...
Red went early to help out and Dave came to pick up Steve. Jim and Harry showed up later. I will pass this over to Steve now....
Some of these planes are worth thousands of dollars.
This Canadian plane has our home town Victoria printed under the flag on the tail...Cool!
This is a very serious hobby for some...
Spectators seated in front of a long line of parked side x sides...
A powered glider...
This was an unusual plane built backwards. The wings are swept forward and in the back with the tail in the front behind the propeller.
Red has this plane...
This Canadian pilot from Victoria was an outstanding stunt pilot...
This was immediately after takeoff...
Here he crosses the field on a knife edge bouncing the tail up and down to the music playing!
B-25 Mitchell Bomber
Wayne that trained Steve owns this beauty...
This guy is hovering like a helicopter just above the ground...
This plane is very tiny, probably no bigger than a magazine...
Friday night we hosted a potluck appetizer/dinner gathering. We all squeezed into what shade we had behind the trailer. Red is grilling hot dogs...
Pam and Cecile....
Far left, going around...Les, Sue Harry, Vicki, me, Jim R, Bill, Janet, Cec, Red, Pam, Barb, Jim N, and Dave and Cheryl with their back to the camera...
Jim N, Jim R and Harry....
Glad you have not "crashd" your new plane Steve. lol Looks like you have lots of teachers though at the flying club.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad too but even the good pilots have had mishaps so I'm sure my day will come.
DeleteLooks like some good times. Love the Air planes. Looks like a fun and expensive hobby.
ReplyDeleteWe've all been having a blast. You guys will have to head west and join again us sometime.
DeleteNice plane shots! Cannot wait to shake this cold and join you for happy hours rather than just watching from afar!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Have you been standing at your back window watching and whimpering. Get well soon, we all miss you!
DeleteGreat plane pics Steve! I was sitting right beside you and mine weren't nearly as good. Must the the operator. :-)
