I decided to forego a quad ride today, opting instead to stay home and get some paperwork (and "stuff") done...pay bills, record expenses; you know...all that fun stuff that one still has to deal with even in this lifestyle. I did manage to get a walk in, in the afternoon...going all the way into Merritt to the post office and back. That was a good hour walk but I must admit, I sure miss my walking buddy, Tucker!
After breakfast, I packed Steve a lunch and he joined a group going on a long ride to Cabin Lake. They all headed off just before 10:00...I'll pass this over to him to tell you about the ride...
We no sooner got started when we had a bit of a traffic jam at the start of the first hill climb...
Seems a fellow (and his dog) baled off his quad, unharmed, just in time as it rolled down the hill quite a distance to the bottom. Others were picking up whatever used to be in/on his quad down the hillside...
Our first rest stop after about 40 km...
Silver Lake...
Although you can't tell in the photo this was a very steep and rocky trail...
This couple riding double on a one rider only quad had a tip over on the way up but were luckily unhurt...
Our leader Jim and Cecile...
Lightening Lake...
Matt throwing the stick for Bosco. Matt likes to ride nice and close so eats a lot of your dust :-)
Janet and Bill...
The higher we got into the alpine the vegetation got very lush with lots of wild flowers...
Stopped to take pictures of Cabin Lake below...
Wow...Cabin Lake is such a beautiful area...
It would be nice to know the history of the cabin...
We are at approximately 5,885' elevation...
We thought this trail from Cabin Lake would lead us to the old crash site of a Conair water bomber about 3 km away however it petered out...
Time to head back...
We all take turns directing each other whenever there is an intersecting road...
Back down the steep hill...
Not taking any chances this time the lady from the couple riding double decided to dismount and walk down...
Rest stop at another rec site on a river...
My turn to direct traffic again...
Lily Lake...
Merritt below from the towers we can see from camp...
It was around 5:30 when the group finally started arriving home...wow, that was long 137 km (85 miles) ride! Steve was one of the last ones to arrive so I asked the group what they did with my husband LOL...apparently he road up to the 'towers' to take a look.
After he got cleaned up, we sat outside and enjoyed a drink while dinner was cooking.
Afterwards, we walked down to visit friends, Dave and Deb Webb (on the right), whom we hadn't seen in a long time. They are here with their friends Steve and Purdy. So we had a nice visit with them and then let them have their dinner...they were eating fashionably late, it was going on 9:00!
What beautiful lakes and trails. Good thing the tip over peeps didn't get hurt. What a pretty area!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a lovely area to ride!
DeleteI am guessing you did not go up that hill where the woman rolled hers!
ReplyDeleteAs a matter of fact, yes we have...it's the only way to the trails. There is a big rock on the trail that you have to navigate properly...she hit it the wrong way.
