Thursday, June 2 to Monday, June 13, 2016 (Tunkwa Lake Campground, Tunkwa Provincial Park, Logan Lake, BC)

As you are aware, we have no internet (or cell) service at Tunkwa Lake, so today is laundry day...and here I sit in the laundromat in Logan Lake. So I am going to try to get a quick blog update done.

We left Chris and Angela's at about 9:30 Thursday, June 2 and after picking up the truck and dropping off the rental car, we were on our way back up to Tunkwa Lake. We stopped in Hope for lunch...and happened upon Rolly's Restaurant, so we thought we'd give it a try. It's a "down home, homestyle cooking" type of place with excellent food. We both had burgers and I can honestly say, that it was the best mushroom burger I have had in a very long time! I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

The rest of our trip to Tunkwa Lake was uneventful. We drove through some clouds on the way up the Coquihalla highway...very eerie...

That's a picture of Nicola Lake in the distance...where we worked at Monck Provincial Park last summer....

After a stop in Logan Lake for propane, we arrived back at the park at about 3:30, unpacked and then Doug and Sue joined us for happy hour. Good catching up on the events over the past few days.

Our days have mainly been filled with fishing, reading (and snoozing) for Steve and crocheting, knitting (yes, I have also taken up knitting...again, something I have done in the past, but it has been a long, long time!) and walking. I've managed to get my 10,000 steps in everyday (with the exception of one), often exceeding that goal.

Since we are only in town for a short period (laundry is done and we have now moved to the Pick and Shovel Pub for lunch...and more laptop "work"), this will be a quick update....with lots of pictures!

The park is full of marmots...this one is sitting on a rock outside our side window...
Friday (June 3...Happy Birthday to our oldest son, Rob!!) morning we went for a bike ride. There are 3 campgrounds at Tunkwa Provincial Park...Tunkwa Lake, Leighton Lake and North Leighton. This is North Leighton Campground...we have stayed at this campground a couple of times, mainly because it is ATV friendly...

Leighton Lake Campground...

The road back to Tunkwa Lake...
Steve went out fishing that afternoon...
Later on, he took a walk up to the bench "on the bluff" across from the campground. I had had my fill of walking so sat knitting...

Friday evening, we were invited over to Sue and Doug's for dinner. This is where they live...in the compound...
We enjoyed a bevie before a delicious burger dinner...yum!

It was a hot weekend...and busy at the campgrounds. Hard to believe last weekend we were hunkered down inside out of the cold and wet! We had above normal temps up into the high 20's C...80F.
Sue and Doug had gone down to the coast for a mini three-day vacation, so I had some quality time with Po (their Rag-Doll Cat)...also enjoying the air-conditioning in their trailer....

Steve was out fishing...

 The hill with the bench...

And more fishing Sunday! While I walked numerous times around the campground...and visited Po...
It's hard to take a picture of a fish that you hope to return unharmed when by yourself. This fish was in the 3-4 lb. range...

Looks like one of the rare times that the water is flat...it's usually fairly breezy...
Monday (June 6) Steve decided to give fishing a break...and sat in the shade outside reading (we put up the sunshade to give us a little more shade)...
We had a nice sunset that night...

Tuesday was another day of fishing and reading for Steve....and crocheting and walking for me. I also put together a tray of lasagna for dinner...Doug and Sue joined us...

Wednesday morning, Steve and Doug went out fishing...it would pretty well be Doug's last time to take a day off to fish since they will be taking over managing the park soon.

They were out on the lake for 5 hours...fishing was good! Although, it didn't start off well for Doug...he kept watching Steve reel them in (6) but wasn't catching any himself. That changed though...
Doug had noticed that Steve had his line out all the way to the backing so he did the same...
...and immediately he got a fish on!

For a total of 5...and Steve never caught another...

While the guys were out, Sue and I drove into Logan Lake to run a couple of errands. Once back, I walked up to their place to see if I could transfer some books from my laptop to her iPad...next thing we knew, 2 hours had gone by...and I had been unsuccessful...sheesh!

That evening Sue and Doug brought firewood down to our place and we enjoyed cocktails around a campfire...and then roasted hot dogs and had s'mores. Too bad it had turned out to be so windy out! Yes, there's a cold front that had moved in and we were back to wind, clouds and a little rain.

Thursday Steve and I decided to hike around Tunkwa Lake...so with the backpack stocked with bottled water and snacks, and Steve with his "big" camera, we headed off...

Steve found his first geocache with his new Montana 610 GPS
We had a couple of swampy creeks to cross...

Steve almost stepped on a bird and found our why...
Oh no... we hoped for a bridge...
...so we don't have to hike around another lake...
Hopefully we can cross here...

I am freaking out! Steve had to grab my hand and lead me across...

Steve was blown away. Without hesitation I took the initiative and was the first to step on the log while hugging the building not knowing if it would hold me...
We climbed through the fish egg collection building reaching the other side...

Another geocache...

Wild Roses...

That was about a 6 mile hike...what a great day! The weather was perfect for it...broken clouds and not too hot!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday...more fishing, reading, crocheting/knitting and walking. Sunday Tucker and I walked the road from Tunkwa Lake to Leighton Lake and then took the trail back...while Steve went out fishing...

Later that afternoon, Steve and I took a walk up to "the Bluff" (Bench Hill)

While we were enjoying a bevie outside, we noticed this chipmunk on the bird feeder...well, at least something likes that birdseed, the birds don't seem to be too fussy for it...

And that brings us to today, Monday, June 13....after breakfast, we loaded the laundry into the truck and headed off into Logan Lake. We stopped at the bank to get some loonies and quarters for the machines and then Steve dropped me off with the laundry and went to get propane and fill our water containers. After I got the laundry into the machines, I fired up the laptop and got started on this blog. When Steve got back, we plugged his new Montana 610 GPS in and downloaded an update for it and then I continued working on the blog while Steve started connecting with the outside world using his iPad. Unfortunately, I wasn't finished the blog by the time the laundry was done, so we went up to the local hotel/pub where we had lunch and I finished the blog.

There...we are up-to-date for now....until next time....stay tuned!
