Saturday and Sunday, October 31 and November 1, 2015 (Travel to Midland LTVA, Blythe, CA)

We pulled out of Virgin River Canyon Campground around 10:00...we weren't in any hurry this morning because our destination for tonight was only about two and a half hours away. We had a couple of stops to make...and we didn't want to get to Searchlight until later this afternoon.

It was a gorgeous day as we continued through the Virgin River Canyon...

Construction below...looks like a bridge was being replaced...
 The Virgin River...

 We crossed into Nevada...

We had two stops planned in Mesquite, Nevada...the first one was at a sani-dump that was in a station next to the Eureka Casino. It cost us $7 to dump our tanks but there wasn't any other place along our route today to do it.
After that was done, we continued on to Walmart for a little shopping.

I took waaay to long shopping...according to Steve who was sitting out in the truck on his iPad. About an hour and a half later we were back on the road heading south on I-15...

We took I-515 through Las Vegas...

...and then highway 95 south...
We pulled into Terrible's Casino and Truck Stop in Searchlight, NV just before 4:00...
...and parked at the far end of the lot. We leveled off and put the slides out...and other than clearing some stuff off the bed, that was the extent of our set up.
Our view from the rig...

We stopped here two years ago and had a good time in the little casino enjoying $1 beer and chatting with the bartender. It worked out that Searchlight was about half way to Blythe...a perfect place to stop! This time this little casino was offering Rolling Rock Beer for 50 cents a glass! It was a good tasting beer so we stuck with the cheap stuff. At that price we could have actually afforded to buy a round for the house ;-) We were totally amazed...and we thought $1 beer was good! I wonder what the price will be next time we stop...25 cents? LOL!
No luck on the slots....

Needless to say, we enjoyed a few hours...and a "few" beers in the casino. Our evening ended around 8:00 when we paid our bill and made our way back to the trailer... the bill for 9 beer along with two orders of chicken strips and fries had come to $13!!

We were both awake bright and early Sunday morning, deciding to get out of bed and get going...it was 5:30...or so we thought! We forgot about the time change last night...the end of daylight savings time meaning that the clocks "fall" back an hour. It was actually only 4:30 a.m.!! Oh well, we are really getting an early start today!
We walked over to McDonald's for breakfast...it was supposed to open at 5:00 but it appeared they weren't in any rush. It was almost 5:20 by the time they opened the doors...sheesh!
We hit the road shortly after 6:00...our ETA in Blythe, CA...9:00 a.m. Another beautiful travel day!
Welcome to California!
We continued on hwy 95 to I-40, east to Needles...and then back on 95 south...

After about 2 hours on the road, we pulled over for a break...Steve decided to clean the windows...
There's the Colorado River...
We arrived in Blythe...and Miller Park...at 9:15. We filled the trailer (and a couple of our 5 gallon containers) with fresh water...
...and then continued the final leg of our journey...20 minutes north to Midland LTVA BLM Campground  (Bureau of Land Management, Long Term Visitors Area)...

Almost there!

Only 3 rigs, Wolf and Marge left, Dennis and Charlene centre, unknowns on the right...
Since Anne and Armand aren't here yet, we took the spot they were in last year...(our old spot) rather than go up beside Dennis and Charlene, where we usually go. We'll let them have their space...this time :) We had a lovely greeting from Charlene and Dennis and then we got started on our set up. It was a very hot day...88F/31C!
Dennis and Charlene's rig...
After getting all set up, we spend the rest of the afternoon sitting outside in the shade...it was 92F/33C inside the trailer!
At about 4:00, Charlene and Dennis joined us for a couple of hours...it's so great seeing and catching up with them!

As it got darker out the stars and Milky Way were incredible. Some of us even spotted the occasional shooting star...

  1. Rolling Rock used to be my beer of choice, at .50 a glass I may have to go back! I bet it is nice to be grounded somewhere again. How long are you going to be there?

    1. Good beer and the price was right! LOL
Yes, it's nice to slow down. We're going to head over to Quartzsite early next week and basically stay hunkered down there for awhile.
