Wednesday, December 30, 2015 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Another gorgeous, but cold, start to the day. We're making good use of our new propane heater! The day started off as usual. As we were sitting with our coffee, I received a text from Deb...she's going into Blythe to pick up a few things, do I want to go with her? Sure!

So at 9:00 she picked me up and off we went. After stops at Smart and Final, Ace Hardware (I picked up a 2' Christmas Tree for $5...adding to my collection of decorations for next year), and Albertson's, we were on our way home.

As we pulled into La Posa South, there was a familiar rig pulled over getting a permit...it was Red and Pam! Pam had texted me yesterday saying they were on their way...arriving a couple of days earlier than originally planned. We stopped and spoke briefly to Red...they were going to fill up with fresh water and then come around to our area and decide where to set up.

Deb dropped me and my groceries off...thanks again, Deb, for taking me along! I had just finished putting the groceries away when Red and Pam pulled in. After big hugs, we showed them a couple of options of where to make camp. They made their decision and Red pulled their rig around...and we left them to get set up.

Steve and I had a bite to eat for lunch...and then I worked on our blog post for yesterday while Steve sat outside reading.

At 4:00, we went over to Jim and Barb's for happy hour...left to right...Red, me, Deb, Ray, Barb, Jim and Pam...

We also found out that today was Jim's birthday! I won't reveal his age,,, but I will say, he's just a youngster! Happy Birthday, Jim!

We had a wonderful time chatting and enjoying some great appies but as the sun went down at 5:30, it got quite chilly, so all called it a night. Glad you are here, Pam and Red...looking forward to catching up with you! Our little community here is continuing to grow...

Tuesday, December 29, 2015 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

It was another gorgeous, but cool, morning as we loaded up our quads with lunch and bottles of water and headed over to Bob and Sue's acreage, stopping along the way to pick up Jim and Barb in their side-by-side. We are all going on a long ride today...over Preacher's Pass.
It was about 10:00 when we took off...with Bob leading the way, and Fred, Lori, Jim/Barb, Sue, Steve and I following. That's five quads and two side-by-sides.

(You'll have to click to enlarge photos as our quads are specks in the distance...)

Gnarly tree...

In the middle of the desert we ran across a cone shaped hole about 10 feet deep and maybe 30 to 40 feet across that is lined with concrete...no idea what it is.

Bob had hidden a geocache here...found it!
Under the I-10 we go...to the north side...
We stopped at General Patton's old camp...D-124. There are still tank tracks visible!
Jim checking out the camp...

Next stop was at a wildlife watering area (aka...a guzzler or tank)...

That is Preacher's Pass viewpoint up there where everyone is...

Time to head down...and towards Preacher's Pass...

And the climb starts...

Everyone is way ahead while Steve waits for Sue...
 Here comes Sue...
And there goes Sue...

Made it! I figure it's called "Preacher's Pass" because you are praying all the way up, hoping you're going to make it! It was pretty steep, especially the last bit...and a long climb!
 Barb and Jim....
We came from away down there...
There used to be a sitting bench under that tree...
A Pack Rats midden covered in very prickly Cholla or Teddy Bear Cactus. Don't know how they can do this without getting covered in these things...
Like Lori who stepped on same Cholla Cactus and spent a long time trying to get all the thistles out...

Group shot...Fred, Lori, Jim Barb, Bob, Sue, me and Steve...
And we're on our way down the other side...

 Back under the I-10...

 I-10 in the distance...

It was going on 4:30 when we got home...another great day! Wonderful to spend the day out on our quads with friends! Thanks for leading the way, Bob!

Sue had mentioned that there was a musical performance at the QIA (Quartzsite Improvement Association) this evening, but quite frankly, we were too bushed! We vegged in front of the TV for the evening...and then retreated to the bedroom early to continue watch TV in there. Mind you, I don't think I lasted all that long before I was asleep!
