Saturday was a pretty laid back day...we really didn’t do
much of anything other than sit outside in the shade and read. At 3:00 we walked into Fort Langley...what a
busy, busy little place! The outdoor
patio restaurants were packed.
After a stop at the liquor store, Steve packed a case of
beer into his backpack and we headed home...to resume our positions in our
chairs. It was a hot day...the temp was
in the high 20’s. But apparently a cold
front is moving in tomorrow bringing cooler temps and rain.
Sunday morning we went for a 45 minute power walk down to
Tavistock Point. It is amazing how low
the water level is on the Fraser River...
The water level was up to the end of the trail...where those people are standing...last spring...
Chris and Angela arrived just before 2:00. We met them down in the day-use parking area
where, after hello hugs, we all climbed back into Chris’s new car so Steve
could take it for a test drive. Very
nice...Mazda 3.
Back at our site, we sat chatting for a bit before deciding
to go for a walk into Fort Langley. It
was threatening rain as we crossed the bridge but it didn’t amount to anything,
thank goodness. We had a nice stroll
along the main streets and Chris treated us to gelato...how convenient that he
was the only one with his wallet with him!
We had a little firewood left from our stay at Lac le Jeune
that had to be used before we headed south, so when we got back Steve got a
campfire going and we sat out with a drink.
Wouldn’t you know that shortly after getting the fire going, it started
to rain...so inside we go. But it didn’t
last long and we were soon back out by the fire.
We had an early (for us) dinner and as Steve was finishing
up the steaks on the barbeque, the rain started up again. I had contemplated eating outside at the
picnic table...good thing I decided against it.
Shortly after 6:30, we said goodbye to Chris and Angela and
they were on their way back into Vancouver...we’d had a great visit...looking
forward to seeing them again when we fly home for Christmas.
Monday morning we were up and out by 8:00 a.m....the truck
had a service appointment at Gold Key in Surrey. We dropped it off and walked over to
Willowbrook Mall...the stores weren’t open yet, it was just after 8:30. So we sat in the food court where Steve made
a couple of phone calls regarding a propane campfire that he had been
researching. We spent so much time out
on Rob and Angie’s deck where they have a propane campfire that we thought we
would check out getting a small one. We
enjoy sitting in front of a campfire but firewood is so expensive to purchase
in campgrounds. We would normally require at a minimum two bundles ($6.00 for 6 pieces per bundle)...that we figured
propane would be the way to go. "Campfire in a Can", a Canadian
product...BC, actually...is what Steve is after and as it turns out, Western
Natural Gas, a wholesale supplier from his old work life stocks them. They retail for $280.00 so it was great getting it for wholesale. Hopefully the truck is ready early enough
today that we can go pick one up.
Once the stores in the mall opened up, we did a little
shopping. Steve wanted to get a
watch...I needed a new pair of sunglasses and also had some money left on a Bay
gift card so wanted to see if I could find a pair of shorts on summer
clearance. Steve found what he was
after...and I think it was the first time that I have walked to a clearance
rack, found a pair of shorts and a top, tried them on and bought them...exactly
what I was after; just like that! And
after using my gift card, I only had to pay 16 cents!
We spent the rest of the morning walking around the mall,
stopping for coffee, wandering, and then shortly after lunch...we received the
phone call we were waiting for...the truck was ready. Perfect...it was early enough that we could
drive to Western Natural Gas, about a half hour drive away.
It was shortly after 2:30 when we got home. The first thing Steve did was change into his
shorts and get working...he wanted to get the roof of the trailer washed today
(and the rest of it done tomorrow). A
couple of hours later, he was done and decided to put our new campfire together.
It’s perfect...just a small campfire that we will enjoy for
a long time...we also figured that it would pay for itself after only 17 fires.
