Saturday and Sunday, August 15 and 16, 2020 (North Saanich, BC)

Saturday morning Rob ended up having to go into work...too bad he wouldn't be able to join the rest of us on a hike. Shortly after 10:00 the rest of us all crammed into our car...it was just a short drive to Horth Hill Regional Park, so Angie managed to fit between the boy's in the back seat.

As we were leaving, a family of deer sauntered through the yard and down the driveway...
The fawns...
Momma waiting below...
Horth Hill is in "the neighbourhood" with Rob and the family hiking the trails from home to the park but today we are driving to the trailhead. It has been quite awhile since Steve and I have hiked here. There are some beautiful views but today we decided to hike the perimeter trail...like yesterday's hike, there was a lot of up and down!
This is the park the Royals Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle were spotted in a couple of times when they lived in the area last winter before moving to L.A.

You'll notice that Bryce found another walking stick for Gramma...thanks buddy!

Once again if they can they will climb it!

Come on you slow pokes!
We thought we'd check the geocaching app for any hidden in the park...and there are a few! Our first find...
And the second one. Unfortunately we couldn't find the third one...we figured we had found the spot it should have been hidden in, but it wasn't there. It wasn't for lack of trying though!

And a selfie back at the trailhead sign...another great hike!
We were back home around noon...time for showers, lunch and a relaxing afternoon!

Steve headed into Victoria just after 4 to meet up with Dave and his buddies at a car rally at Java Jo's. Apparently this is a weekly event on Saturdays...so I'll pass this over to him now...
Vince above, and Dave below arriving...
Thanks for the milkshake Dave!
Interesting table...
I didn't know what to expect but was pleased to see so many nice cars showing up as the evening progressed...

As I was taking this picture I heard someone yell out "Hey Steve...you should be taking a picture of me with my car!" Turns out it was a former customer of mine...Mike, now retired from Western Oil Services.

In the middle, another Acadian Canso like Dave's, a real beauty too!
This one appears to be put together as a bit of a joke I think. Front bumper is a large chain and the grill looks to be from a tractor...
Bottle opener with a cap receptacle and a bottle of Fireball...LOL!
And antlers on the back...
Finally I get to drive my old car. Can't recall what cam they put in this but the sound as we rumble along sounds awesome and it shakes when we come to a stop as it just wants to go! Rear view mirror and stereo to come...
I don't recall the steering wheel being so skinny...feels weird!

Me and my younger Bro at Victoria's waterfront. I wanted to get a few photos with a nice background but all the parking spots were taken...
Unfortunately being parked in the shade with a bright background my pics didn't turn out well...

Vince spent the last 5 years coordinating the restoration of Dave's car...what a great friend!
We got a few looks and thumbs up as we rumbled our way through downtown Victoria. One guy even pulled up beside us and yelled out "I'm so jealous right now!"

Vince and Dave, another friend from Dave's school days. Many more show cars had showed up at Java Jo's while we were gone so we had to park next door at Dodd's Furniture. I hope my Mazda 3 hasn't showed them all up as it's the only non show car parked over there...LOL!
That was awesome...thanks Dave! I have many fond memories from my younger days in this car. So glad it's still in the family. You'll have the nicest wheels in Thompson, Manitoba!
Love those wheels and tires!

Sunday (August 16) Rob and Angie had a last minute invitation to join friends on their boat up at Shawnigan Lake for a few hours, so they headed off just after 9:00. They get together with Dustin, Bree and their 2 kids once a year to enjoy a visit and water fun off the boat. Dustin and Rob met in grade 2...the first day of school as the moms, with kids in tow, try to figure out what classroom they are supposed to be in. We had just moved into our new house and Deep Cove Elementary School was a new school for Rob. And there was Dustin and his mom, Marilyn, waiting as we both found the right classroom. Rob and Dustin bonded right then and there and have been good friends ever since. Of course, as they grew older and finished school, they don't see each other often but definitely keep in touch.

We had planned to go home today but with Steve's birthday a week away, Angie wanted to have a birthday dinner for him before we go. Sounds good to us...we can go home tomorrow. So with the kids away for a good part of the day, Steve and I decided to drive to Island View Beach Regional Park and hike along the trail there.
As you can see, it was a beautiful day. James Island in the background...
The trail continues on to Oceanside RV Resort where we will be moving to next month for the winter. Steve would walk it daily last year when we were here, so looks like it's off limits now as it's on the reserve...
We had walked about 2.5 kms/1.6 miles by the time we got back to the car. We decided that was enough...it was a hot morning and the temps are heading up into the high 20's C/80's F this afternoon.

Mitchell Farms below as we head home...
Steve and I were just relaxing when Rob, Angie and the boys got home just after 3:00. What a great time they had, and perfect weather!

Grampa and Bryce playing on the deck. I snapped this picture just as the ball went into the pail...good job, Bryce! Bryce's method of scoring is questionable...LOL!
Rob cooking halibut for dinner...yum! Steve's fav! Doesn't the new back-splash look great? Good job, Rob!
Dinner time!
Grampa had to wear a Happy Birthday tiara...that he decided to use as glasses LOL!
DQ Ice Cream Cake! (candles are a small "6" and a big "5"...the big 65 coming up in just over a week. Yay...Steve gets a raise in pay then!
Cool ice cream cake...thanks guys from the birthday boy! Hey...who stuck their finger in my cake?
And that concludes our time on the island visiting family. Another great visit! Tomorrow morning we will pack up and head to the ferry.
