Monday and Tuesday, August 12 and 13, 2019 (Oceanside RV Resort, Saanichton, BC)

Our neighbours next door didn't pack it in until 1 a.m.last night! They weren't really partying but talking and laughter outside your bedroom window is a bit much...sheesh! It affected Steve more than me, since his window was closer. He wasn't a happy camper!

First thing this morning Steve was out working on the truck. Last week when he had moved it to the upper parking lot to make room for washing the car, he noticed the odometer was flickering. When he went to move it back to our site not only was the odometer flickering but the whole instrument panel cluster was flickering, then staying on and the analog gauges were not working...geez!

Since we were leaving for Vancouver the next day, he had decided to deal with it upon our return. So last Friday when we got home, he called Truck Pro in Sidney because they had a mobile mechanic. Unfortunately he wouldn't be available for a week, so Ron suggested disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes to see if that would reset the instrument panel computer. Next, to check to see if the alternator was working, start the truck, then disconnect the battery, if the truck quits its the alternator. Ron then offered to stop by on his way home if he was able to get off early...cool...unfortunately he was a no show :(

So today was the day...Steve grabbed his tools and crawled under the truck and disconnected the battery, then waited a couple of minutes before reconnecting it. Steve said if he got the truck started he was going to immediately take off to Truck Pro and wanted me to follow in the car. He dreaded the thought of stalling in an intersection on the highway then having to deal with our roadside assistance Coach-Net to get the right size tow truck...long story. The truck started, the instrument cluster came on for a couple of seconds which was normal, went off, came back on, then off, the battery light came on, then off, analog gauges were working, everything looked normal so he immediately took off to Truck Pro in Sidney. He made it to there with no issues.

Apparently Ron tried twice last Friday to call to say he couldn't make it but they had one number wrong on our phone number. Anyways, I waited while Steve and Ron went out to check out the truck. He checked the voltage output on the alternator and all the battery connections. Everything checked out. It's a mystery as to why the instrument panel went wonky but at least Steve got it reset. As to whether it will happen again, only time will tell...if it does the whole instrument panel will need to be replaced...$$$ I'm sure.

Since all seemed okay, I headed home, leaving Steve to finish up. While there, Steve noticed they carried the large round amber LED lights. We have two that need replacing as some of the LED's only work when they feel like it. Steve was having a heck of a time removing the defective light and didn't want to wreck anything in case they didn't have the correct one, so he went in for assistance. George came out and with some difficulty, and a little muscle, managed to finally remove it. They had the correct lights, so George offered to install the one and left the other for Steve as it seemed to be working okay. The staff there were very friendly, professional and great to deal with...and we were only charged for the lights!

When Steve got home, he decided to get out for his power walk....while I sat at the table working on the laptop. He took more pictures on his walk....over to him to tell you about them...

All morning the fog had been rolling in and out, it was like a fall day...
Great Blue Herons and James Island...
All this loose sand makes for a good workout!
The fog rolled back in over James Island leaving it's shoreline barely visible...
Island View Beach...
A steamy beach...
Island View Beach Regional Park RV And Tent Campground
The fog is lifting on James Island...

Nature called so I went a little farther than normal to use the facilities...
Heading back...
"Only You Can Prevent Beach Fires"  He needs a hat...maybe next hike...
 Quail...

The rest of the afternoon Steve worked on our blog while I went for a bike ride...and then sat outside with my knitting. The sun was coming out and it was warming up after a weekend of cloud, a little rain and cooler temperatures.

We had a very relaxing morning on Tuesday...it was mid morning (remember, we're up around 6 a.m.) by the time we had finished breakfast and showered. Steve headed out on his power walk while I did some work on the laptop.

It was going on noon when I left Steve relaxing in is chair and went into Sidney...I did some shopping and then had coffee to kill some time before my pedicure appointment. I was home around 3:30 to find Steve watching one of his shows on TV. I guess he had also taken care of some odds and ends, and done a little reading sitting outside...a pretty relaxing afternoon, by the sound of it.

We ended the afternoon with a bike ride...a few rounds of all the loops here in the park and then cooled down in the shade with water. Yes, the blue sky and sunshine is back!

  1. Hate having electrical issues! They can be anywhere and hard to find. All that salt air is messin' with Buster. Hope it stays fixed. Just heading back to Wabuman for the night and we'll see you kids in a few days!! Cheers.
