Friday, February 17, 2017 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

We decided to go out on the quads today and do some geocaching. There are not a lot in the area that we have not yet found but, yes, there are still some...mainly the "one-offs" hidden here and there. We have found most power-trails or strings that have been hidden...but there are even still a couple of those yet to do.

We headed into the hills west of here...it's amazing the trails there are! They go every which way! Steve found our first geocache of the day...

Now it's my turn to lead the way to the next one...

Ummm...okay, this is as far as I am going to go...you're on your own to get this one, Steve! It's way up there on the top of the hill on the right hand side...
So up he goes...yes, that's me waaaaaay down there....
What a view! Hard to see in this photo but that's Quartzsite on the left with many RV's next to it...
The mountains of the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge on the right...
Rainbow Acres development in the distance...
The next geocache wasn't much better...Steve started complaining that he was the one doing all the work! Yep...that's me again waiting at the bottom...LOL!
There was a geocache in that direction...
No...I definitely wouldn't like this. Steve assumed the next one would be in the opposite direction near the flag in the distance...

But nope. The hint said it was down below near that Saguaro...
So we rode around the hill and I got it. You can barely see the flag up top...
We found a couple of other caches and then continued onto 11 Trivia caches...(the geocaches are not at the location recorded...you have to correctly answer some trivia questions for each one and then the correct co-ordinates are sent to you).
I even found a travel bug from Texas! We're going to take it back up to BC and put it in one of the geocaches around Tunkwa Lake where we'll be workamping...

Eighteen geocaches later, we decided it was time to head to Beer Belly's Adult Daycare for a quick beer before heading home. There is a storm heading our way...and Steve wants to put some fresh water in the trailer before it hits us.

The winds and dust had already started by the time we headed home. Steve immediately went and picked up the poop-mobile from Earl, took it to the water station and was back filling our water tank. Meanwhile, I got cleaned up, put our stuff away and plugged the GPS's and radios in to recharge.

Once Steve was finished, we "battened down the hatches" making sure everything was secure in the strong wind...the advisory is for sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph. It was a very windy, dusty evening and night!

  1. Glad you are all buttoned down. Hopefully you got some sleep with all of the wind. It took me about 4 days to get used to "city white noise" so I could sleep after the quiet at Q and Valley of Fire.

  2. Great job on finding the Travel Bug! I would not have thought there were many caches left in that area that you have not found!

  3. We were nearby on Friday, over at the B&B and trails around that area. Ended at the mine, and then headed in just as the wind kicked up. We had dinner at the Stagecoach with the 2 couples we met in the trail.

I am really enjoying the off reading this year. Our jeep is an eyesore, riding among all the UTVs, but we can cope. :-)
