Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, January 14, 15, 16 and 17, 2017 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Saturday was a pretty uneventful day. Steve and I got out for a walk and ran into Barb out walking Daisy, so she joined us. We had a good walk...2.65 miles today.

Back home, Steve was about to work on cutting the U bolt ends in the cargo box on his quad...but it started raining. We actually had quite a downpour...all while the sun was shining. Weird!

When that was over with, he hopped on his quad and rode into town to pick up some more cutting wheels for the dremel...then got to work. While he was doing that, I puttered around inside, worked on a blog, and got dinner going in the crockpot. After that, I spent the rest of the afternoon knitting.

Sunday morning we were ready shortly after 10:00...we're going to the Desert Bar today! We were going with Ray and Deb; Jim and Barb picked up Les and Sue...and Harry and Vicki had just arrived this morning and joined us as well.
Starting on the left...Vicki, Harry, Barb, Jim, Sue, Les, Ray, Deb and me...
Lunch time! Sorry Barb...but Steve thought Jim's burger compared to everyone else's was hilarious! Now that's a plain burger!
The band South Bend was excellent! They played some great ol' tunes, Beach Boys, CCR, Grand Funk Railroad etc...
Steve went for a walk and took pictures of the area...(nothing really different from all the other times we have been here...still a really cool spot, though!) That's us under the shelter...

We enjoyed beer, good food, good music...and good company...another great time at the Desert Bar! It was shortly after 3:00 when we got home. Steve set up the Campfire-in-a-Can and at 4:00, we re-grouped at our place for a few (more) drinks. Deb (Ray was resting at home...his back didn't fare so well on the bumpy road to and from the Desert Bar), Steve, Jim, Barb, Vicki and Harry.
Monday morning Steve and I got out for another walk. We stopped for a quick visit with Jim and Barb and then with Harry and Vicki, who had taken the spot next to Jim and Barb. After brief chats, we got on with our walk. Along the way we ran into Jim and Barb again, this time walking Dakota and Daisy, so we continued our walk with them.

We were going to ride our quads into town to the 'Shade Pro' booth to order an awning for our fifth-wheel but we had run out of propane in one of the tanks this morning, so Steve loaded the tank along with another one that he wanted  to top off into the truck and we drove in. First stop was at Arco to fill  up a few gas containers, then onto the Pit Stop for propane and fresh water...and finally Shade Pro.

Mid afternoon, Cec called...they were on their way. And a few minutes later, we watched as a red jeep made it's way over...followed by two more jeeps. Our friends, Alan and Cec popped by for a visit bringing with them two other couples that wanted to meet us. We have met up with Alan and Cec every year (sometimes more than once) since we first met them in Alaska back in 2013.

This year, however, they are not staying here at La Posa South. Instead they have only stopped for a couple of nights over at Dome Rock and made a point of coming over to see us for a visit. Their friends, Daryl and Danielle, and Trevor and Leanne stayed and visited for a few minutes and then headed off leaving Cec and Alan and us to have a good visit.
Starting on the far left, and going around to the right...me, Daryl, Trevor, Danielle, Leanne, Cec and Alan...
A couple of hours flew by and after big hugs, they said goodbye. They plan on making another trip up to BC this summer and promised to come see us. Looking forward to being able to spend more time with you both! So wonderful seeing you...good luck with your new home in Goodyear!

We quickly put the chairs away and got ready to head across the road...Deb and Ray have invited us for dinner. Yes, Deb seems to like to feed us...and we love to eat her delicious meals!
Freya and I relaxing before dinner...
Time to fill our plates!
Hugs for the cook...

Deb had made delicious ribs, baked beans and coleslaw....yum!

After dinner, we chatted for a little while longer and then called it an evening...thanks for dinner, Deb and Ray!

It was a beautiful day Tuesday...for a road trip to Alamo State Park. Ray and Deb picked us up at 9:30 and after filling the fuel tank, we were on our way heading east on I-10. We took the exit to hwy 60 going northeast through Brenda, Salome...and then at Wenden, we turned north on Alamo Road.

Thirty-four miles later, we arrived at the park...
The lake is very low...
...leaving this boat ramp high and dry...

The park is huge, with numerous camping areas...some with full hook-ups, some with partial...and some with nothing but a picnic table and firepit. This is the only boat ramp that reaches the lake...
These sites have a nice view of the lake...
We continued up the road...
...to the viewpoint at the Alamo Dam...

Dead trees at the far end of the lake...
Alamo Dam...note the high water mark on the right...
This is at another camping section...no hook-ups, but great views and lots of room...

Artillery Peak...

After seeing a lot of evidence of burros on the roads, we finally spotted one...
We pretty well drove around and saw the whole park. We determined that it is a long 34 miles in the middle of no-where. There is apparently good large mouth bass fishing, however it is not the type of lake where you can launch your boat and leave it tied up near your campsite and easily go fishing whenever you want. One attraction it has for us is that you can ride ATV's from the campgrounds and we understand there are a lot of trails to explore. We also found that the internet/cell signal is very weak.

On the way to the lake, we passed Don's Cactus Bar in Wenden....and decided that it looked like a good spot for lunch...so after we had finished our tour of Alamo Lake, we headed there.
As it turned out the restaurant and the bar share the same building but are two separate businesses. However, we were able to order food in the restaurant and sit outside on the patio of the bar with the food delivered to us. Deb and I shared a mushroom swiss cheese burger, Steve had a bacon cheese burger and Ray fish and chips...the burgers were good, but it looked like Ray's fish was "packaged from the freezer", he did say it was good though.
We were back home at around 3:00...thanks for the tour, Ray and Deb!

Although I don't think it was something Steve really felt like doing, he decided to dump our holding tanks. This is the only time of day now that the dump station isn't very busy. So he spent the next two hours taking care of that. While he was busy, I worked on our blog and then decided to uninstall and reinstall our external hard drive that I use for backing up our laptop. For some reason, it had stopped working. That worked and although a little frustrating, I eventually go it running again.

It was after 5:00 by the time we sat outside with a cocktail and watched the sun go down behind the mountains...the end to another very fast day!
