Thursday and Friday, May 16 and 17, 2019 (Oceanside RV Resort, Saanichton, BC)

Thursday morning we were all packed and ready to go just after 11:30...we're going up to Lake Cowichan to visit friends, Deb and Ray, and making it an extra long weekend.

After a quick stop at Greg's RV in Duncan for a look, we arrived just before 2:00. Ray had moved the motorhome out of the driveway and parked it on the street to have the cement driveway sealed. So we just backed into that spot.

After big hugs and unloading the truck, we relaxed with drinks on the deck...taking in the magnificent view! Steve with one of Ray's great margaritas in one hand and pepperoni in the other...
Apparently it was National Caesar day...so Ray made Deb and I one to celebrate...
After a delicious lasagne dinner, Deb and I sat back out on the deck with our wine while Ray and Steve watched a movie.
Unfortunately, my cough had gotten worse...making for a rather sleepless night for both Steve and I.

Friday (May 17) we woke up to a blustery morning on the lake...disappointing for Steve and Ray who had been looking forward to getting out for some fishing. But they busied themselves in Ray's shop, building a 2 x 4 support structure for a work bench. Jason (their son-in-law) arrived with sheets of 3/4" plywood and more 2 x 4's so they had to carry that to the back of the house and into the workshop. Once it was off loaded they continued with another construction project. (Daughter, Kristi would be coming down from Nanaimo later this afternoon).

Deb and I left around 9:30 for a little shopping in Duncan. I was happy to get out for a little girl time and some clothes shopping! I was very successful...and after a few other errands, and lunch, we were home around 2:00.

We found that Ray and Steve were not home...and the boat was gone. The wind had calmed down enough to allow them to get out...nice!
Fly fishing at the canal that joins Bear lake with Cowichan Lake...(Ray's photo)
Where's the fish!
They motored into Bear Lake...

Ray's photos above and below...
With the fish not cooperating and Ray's back acting up it was time to head back...Ray and Deb's is the middle house...
They're home! (Deb's photo)
As soon as Deb and I got home, I put together a wife-saver egg puff dish so that it could sit overnight...breakfast for tomorrow!
There is a big fishing derby on the lake this weekend, and although Ray and Steve aren't entering it, Ray wanted to fuel up the boat tonight, rather than battle all of the boats at the marina tomorrow. So he and Steve took the boat the short distance around the point to the marina. There are a lot of houseboats moored there...

Meanwhile, Deb, Jason and I sat on the deck enjoying our bevies and the view. Kristi arrived around 6:00...time to get dinner started!

Dinner that night was grilled steak, mushrooms, corn-on-the cob, and salad...yum! Steve, me, Deb, Kristi and Jason...(Ray's photo)
And that was the first couple of days...stay tuned for the rest of the weekend!

    1. Watching the other boats during the fishing derby we noticed they were all trolling with down riggers which Ray doesn’t have. I’ve only fished the other end of the lake off a river outflow but being about 20 miles up the lake it’s too far for Ray and his back. We really enjoy Kyle’s Resort!

  2. I'm even far behind on reading blogs! Looks like a great time. What a beautiful spot that is, can't wait to see it later this summer. So far I'm seeing fish-2, Ray & Steve-0 what's up with that lol.

    1. You guys are going to love it here. Definitely going to have to learn how to fish this end of the lake. Ray had only been out once before last year.
