Saturday to Saturday, June 3 to 10, 2017 (Tunkwa Provincial Park, Logan Lake, BC)

Wow, another week has gone by! At this rate, it's going to be a very fast summer!

Steve and I both worked a couple of hours Saturday morning...he was done for the day but I will have another round of outhouse cleaning to do later this afternoon. We didn't make a shopping run into Kamloops this week so after our morning work, we headed into Logan Lake to pick up a few things at the local market.
It was a busy day in the small community...a big flea market and 'show and shine' was happening at the community centre...

Looks like this late in the day though a lot of show cars have left already...
After running our errands, we decided to check out the flea market and cars. We started inside the community centre.

1952 Austin Sheerline Ambulance...

There were lots of vendors with car parts, toys, nick knacks and junk but treasures to others ...
And then continued outside...the parking lot was full of folks selling their treasures too. Reminded us a lot of Quartzsite....

1936 Ford Touring for sale...
The Highland Valley Copper Mine nearby is the largest open pit copper mine in Canada and one of the largest in the world...
I think we were a little late to see all of the vehicles...the field where they were parked was emptying out...

1930 Model A...

1963 Mack...

1937 2 Ton Ford Fire Truck...
1945 Ford Model 69T 2 Ton Wrecker...

We were back home by about 3:00...in plenty of time for me to change back into my park uniform and head out for a final round of cleaning outhouses. Of course, Steve was finished for the day, so he got to laze around for the rest of the afternoon!

Sunday was our day off...but it ended up being a chore day. Steve basically spent most of the day washing the truck (first time since Quartzsite) while I did housework and laundry. A "fun" day LOL!

Monday we both worked a four hour morning shift...Steve weed-whacking and blowing while I scraped, swept and painted picnic tables. I managed to get 13 done.

Tuesday we both worked a full day...it was Doug and Sue's "day off". As usual, they headed into Kamloops to do their shopping and take care of some Tunkwa Park business. Brian (volunteer at Leighton campgrounds) had gone home for a couple of days and Hugh (volunteer at Tunkwa campground) drove one of the campers to the hospital in Kamloops. So we were on our own. Steve emptied the garbage and recycling and cleaned sites in all 3 campgrounds while I cleaned all outhouses. Later we collected from campers staying as well as new ones.

Steve took a few pictures...as you can see it was a beautiful warm day. Lots of empty waterfront sites at Tunkwa now...
Most of the campers during the week are seniors. Until June 14th they get their sites for $9, half price. As of the 15th most of them will take off. Weekends of course are busier...
Leighton Campground is almost full...
Leighton North Campground not so many...
Wednesday...our day off and our turn to go into Kamloops. We (or should I say, "I") had a lot of shopping to do after 2 weeks. We stopped at Best Buy to talk to them about photo editing software (they really didn't have much, best to check programs on-line); Marks Workwear so Steve could pick up a pair of shorts; the post office so I could mail my orthotics and runners back to Paris Pedorthic for adjustment (apparently he won't need my feet...interesting....); Walmart (Steve went to First Choice Haircutters in the same complex and got his hair cut); filled up the truck with diesel and all the gas cans; and finally Costco. It was going on 4:30 by the time we got home...a long day!

Thursday I only worked a couple of hours, making a round of all outhouses. Steve was weed whacking and blowing again. This is where the waterfall from the creek flowing from Tunkwa Lake falls into Leighton Lake below...
Above the waterfall to Leighton Lake...
Geese beside the waterfall at Leighton Lake...
Sparrows are nesting in the kiosk near the waterfall...

Looking towards Tunkwa Lake from the cliff site above Leighton Lake...
Friday, Steve worked his shift weed-whacking sites and I painted...kiosks this time. I managed to get both information kiosks at the entrance to Tunkwa Campground done (one holding info pamphlets, the other with BC Parks info and maps of the park).

Cliff site overlooking Leighton Lake, trimmed and blown...

And that brings us to today...Saturday and another day off. After some beautiful warm, sunny days, another cold front with clouds, rain and cool temperatures has moved in making it an "inside day". We went from running the AC Wednesday to having the heater on most of the day today...sheesh! After resistance exercises, a "big breakfast" and dishes, we watched the movie Saving Private Ryan....well, I watched it while working on this blog and doing laundry.

In my endeavor to make something different for dinner, I decided to make pizza...so I tried out a new pizza crust recipe.
Once that was finished (now all I have to do is put the toppings on it later), we decided to try and get out for a walk. We went next door, got Tucker and were off for some exercise and fresh air. The rain had let up...but it was still sprinkling and breezy. We walked down to the waterfall where Tucker and I walked across the bridge to the open field area where I could throw his ball for him (he always carries his ball when we go for a walk).

While we did that, Steve took pictures of the wildlife in the creek...

As Tucker and I started back across the foot bridge, he stopped at the edge to sniff the grass (as dogs do) and dropped his ball...and it went down the bank into the creek. It was stuck just on the edge of the bank before the foot bridge above the waterfall. So we walked back to the compound and got a 'picker'...and headed back in the gator to see if we could grab it.

When we got back, it was still sitting bobbing on the very edge of waterfall. Steve, with picker in hand, leaned through the fence as far as he could trying to grab the ball. He had it but not good enough of a grip and it fell...down the waterfall into Leighton Lake it went! The hilarious part was watching Steve...he was stuck at his waist in the fence and had a hellava time getting out! No picture...darn!

We walked down to the water's edge and watched as the ball bobbed in the waves into the little bay...but it got caught up in some tall grass. I guess we'll have to keep an eye on it and perhaps as the water goes down, we'll be able to retrieve it for Tucker...after all, it is his favourite ball! Sorry Tucker...we tried!
Back home, we retreated back inside to relax for the rest of the afternoon...a pretty relaxing day overall. And that it's for another week...looking forward to see what the next week brings...

    1. We are very busy but it's only part time work. We are enjoying this gig a lot more than the one we did at Monck P.P. The campers here seem much more respectful of the park...so far.

  2. Very cool car show, love walking around and seeing some of those classics. Funny story about Tucker's ball, hopefully you get it back!
