Wednesday to Friday, May 31 to June 2, 2017 (Tunkwa Provincial Park, Logan Lake, BC)

As I mentioned in our last blog post, today (Wednesday) is our day off...and we are getting on the quads for the first time since Quartzsite and heading out for a ride.

We headed off shortly after 10:00. It wasn't a bad day...broken clouds with some sun peeking through, but more cloud than I would have liked.

That's me crossing the creek that flows from Leighton Lake...
We stopped along the way and had quite a "chat" with this curious Marmot. He was about 3 feet away from Steve...
We had a major thunderstorm roll through last night...so much for our clean quads!
From this photo it doesn't look like much of a hill...
But it's long and steep...
We must have chased these free range cattle for a kilometer as they wouldn't get off the road...
Steve managed to capture a picture of this little guy...looks like a baby coyote or fox...
And of course...a flower picture...
Great view on our way to Savona...
More flowers...

Can't tell from this photo but just above those wispy clouds are communication towers on Mount Savona where we will be riding to later...

Kamloops Lake ahead...

Don't know why this guy has a wreck parked outside of his new house...
Savona in the distance...
Savona...

The gravel road ended at the highway so...
...we headed back...

We explored a side road...

It was private property beyond this point...
We explored a little bit of another side road but decided to turn around and head to Mount Savona...
Yes, more flower shots...lots of beautiful spring flowers...

We made it to the top of Mount Savona where the views are spectacular...
Too bad it's so hazy...that's the city of Kamloops...
Savona again...
Thompson River in the distance...

Time to head home...
Shortly after taking this photo Steve passed me and had a large Black Bear run across the road in front of him...too quick for a photo though...
There were free range cattle everywhere...
Onto the power line trail and I'm in the lead again...

Up we go...
Here you can barely make out Leighton and Tunkwa Lakes just above the power poles...

Note the Osprey nest on the power line tower...

And we're almost back...
We were back home around 2:00...a great day out on the quads! Steve sprayed all of the mud and cow $*%! off them before putting them "back to bed" while I put everything away inside.
Thursday and Friday were super windy here...tough on the fishers trying to get out on the lake. We've had a lot of wind here so far this season! Thursday morning I made my rounds through all of the campgrounds cleaning outhouses...takes me about 2 hours. When I got back to the compound, I decided to call it a day...I had a bunch of odds and ends that needed to be taken care of. Steve spent his 4 hour work morning scraping/wire brushing and painting picnic tables.

It's unusually busy here this weekend...lots of big groups coming in, so I am working a split shift Friday (and Saturday)...2 hours cleaning outhouses in the morning and 2 hours late afternoon. Steve spent his shift hauling rounds of wood out of the bush with Brian then splitting firewood with the hydraulic splitter...

Life continues here at Tunkwa...it's a pretty good gig we have! We love the park...and enjoy working and spending time with Doug and Sue. Not to mention Hugh, Brian and Barb...good folks who volunteer here. And of course...there's also Tucker and Po! Life is good...
