We were a little later hitting the road this morning than we had planned...it was going on 9:30 by the time we pulled out of the casino and headed back to I-84. Today, the weather was sunny and clear...a gorgeous travel day.
I took lots of pictures (just a warning :-))...here is what we saw on our travel day today...
The day started with a big climb for Buster...up Cabbage Hill, which doesn't look too ominous from below but is a long, steady steep climb. Last Spring we came down Cabbage Hill on our way north back to BC, this time we're going up...
Spectacular views!
We finally reach the tree line...
Grande Rondo River...
Baker City, Oregon...
It was very evident that a wildfire and gone through this area last summer...
The burn went on for miles....
Our first look at the Snake River...
We stopped at the Pilot station in Ontario, Oregon and fueled up...a tad bit expensive at $2.71/gallon (not by Canadian standards though) but most big truck stops along the Interstates usually are. As we were pulling out of the station, we saw this truck and it passed us once back on I-84...a Cadillac truck towing a trailer with a Corvette and Trike...nice!
As soon as we left Ontario, Oregon, we crossed the border into Idaho...and were soon in the busy traffic of the Boise area. We passed a sign that said it was 30.5C/87F!
The interstate goes right by the Boise airport...
And then the landscape became very...very...flat...
A sea of wind turbines...
The landscape improves as we started getting closer to the Snake River valley...
It was shortly after 5:30 when we arrived at today's destination...Jerome County Fairgrounds in Jerome, Idaho (about 15 miles west of Twin Falls). Another great spot for an overnighter...$10/night (including 30 amp electricity and water)...
Steve is happy to be back in shorts and flip-flops!
We went for a walk around the grounds...I checked out the office. It was closed for the day so we'll have to pay for our overnight stay in the morning before we leave.
Steve managed to get lots of 'over-the-air' TV channels using the antenna. We forgot to mention that we also got over the air TV yesterday at the Wild Horse Casino, so we were obviously in a dead spot our first night at the Tulalip Casino. After dinner we settled in for an evening of our favourite shows. That had been another long travel day (7 hours), so by 10:00....which was actually 9:00 because we lost an hour today as we crossed into Mountain Standard Time...it was bed time. Going to bed at 10:00 is not unusual for us...but lights out and no more TV shows, is!
Tomorrow we reach Antelope Island near Salt Lake City...we're looking forward to settling down for a few days and exploring that area. Unfortunately the forecast is for rain.
Cabbage Hill looks like a slow and steady climb! glad you made it to the top!
