Friday, January 28 to Sunday, February 6, 2022 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

I'm going to start with a few pictures that were taken awhile ago...Steve took them on his big Nikon camera and for some reason, they did not get downloaded. They are pretty cool, so wanted to included them now.
.
This is a picture of the mountain east of us that we have named "Horseface Mountain". Why, you ask? Well using your imagination when the lighting is right, the lighter colour on the mountain resembles a horse running...thus comes the "horse" part. The mountain itself looks like a face laying down...see the nose and chin?
The next two pictures were taken just before sunrise on January 17th when there was a full moon...
Bob and Sue's rig with the grey car...
Steve and Debbie arrived here in Q last week while we were in Palm Springs. They are set up not too far from us, so Friday (Jan. 28) on our morning walk, we stopped by the say hi.

It was a cool and breezy day, so most of it was spent inside. But we did have a lovely sunset...
After dinner Steve noticed a campfire going over at Steve and Debbie's so he bundled up and walked over to join them. I was warm and comfy and really didn't feel like going out.

Saturday (Jan. 29) started off sunny but it wasn't long before clouds and wind moved in. The birds haven't found our birdfeeder yet but apparently the rabbits have!
Steve pumped the holding tanks in the afternoon but decided to take the poop-mobile over to dump just before sunrise the next morning. The RV show is still on and it is very busy around here...particularly at the sani-dump. The line ups are over 20 rigs long so if you figure 10 minutes or more for each you've wasted a few hours of your day!

After dinner, we took our chairs over to Steve and Debbie's and joined their group around the campfire.

Sunday (Jan. 30) afternoon we decided to ride our quads into town to check out the RV show...it is the last day and we figured we should go for a quick look. We have no intention of going inside the big tent but we'll take a look at the vendors outside, around it.

Beer Belly's Adult Day Care was packed...
Show entrance. Steve peaked inside the tent and said it was still pretty busy in there. Sometimes there are good deals to be had on the final show day from some of the vendors that don't want to pack it all up...
Pretty much all the same stuff we see every year, however electric bikes seem to be more and more popular every year...

After having a quick look at the vendors outside the tent we were on our way home an hour later.

Monday (Jan. 31) morning, after finishing our walk, Steve decided to take another picture of our spot here at La Posa...
Harry and Vicki arrived mid afternoon...Steve led them to a spot on the road across from us which seemed to be to their liking. This year, they have put their big 5th-wheel into storage and are travelling in a small travel trailer. They are planning on going up to Alaska this summer, so wanted to travel with a smaller RV. Good idea, guys, after out experience taking our rig up there!

They joined us behind our rig for some Core Crash. Left to right, Harry, Vicki, Allison, Earl and Steve...
After catching up for awhile, it was time to play. Vicki taking her turn...
We had a great few games and then Harry and Vicki joined Steve and I to walk over to say goodbye to Guy and Sue...they, and their crew, are leaving in the morning.

James, Cindy, Guy, Harry, Sue, Roger, Vicki and me...
So wonderful spending time with you Guy and Sue, and meeting James and Cindy!

Tuesday (Feb. 1) Steve did a little sealant maintenance on the trailer while I did some chores inside and then sat out crocheting and reading. By late afternoon, the clouds had rolled in and the breeze had really turned cool. A wind advisory, a blowing dust advisory...and a freeze warning have been issued. Looks like we're in for a big wind storm tomorrow and cooler temps for the next few days. We took down the sunscreen, put the awning in and the chairs away in prep for the storm.

Earl and Allison picked up Silly Al's Pizza and brought it over...how cool is that? Take-out delivery! We enjoyed another feast of our favourite pizza...along with home made chocolate chip banana bread...thanks Allison! And of course, after the table was cleared, it was time for Rummikub...tonight we all won at least one game, some...more!

Wednesday (Feb. 2) morning the wind started just before 6 a.m. and it was extremely windy all day with gusts predicted to be as high as 58 mph/93 kph! Don't know if it got that high but it sure felt like it.

Steve took a short 24 second video...
Needless to say we had an inside day...except when Steve had to go outside to change the propane tank and get drinking water out of the truck. While out, he discovered one of his tire covers was missing but luckily he spotted it in the distance about a hundred yards away. What a battle he had walking back against the wind after retrieving it!

Thursday (Feb. 3) was still a breezy, cool day...but not nearly as bad as yesterday! The day seemed to go by quickly but I can't really say what we did. Amazing how fast time goes when you are just puttering around doing this and that!

Vicki's sister, Lynn and her husband, Jim arrived today and they all joined us for happy hour, along with Earl, Allison and Marilyn. We had a great time chatting and once the sun went down behind the mountains, it really cooled down and everyone headed home.

Earl and Allison came over for a pork tenderloin dinner....and an evening of aggravation (marbles).

Friday (Feb. 4) morning I went with Allison and Earl to Albertson's in Blythe to pick up a few groceries. While we were gone, Steve pumped and dumped.

Harry, Vicki, Lynn, Jim, Colan and Marilyn came over for happy hour...we got a picture this time! Left to right around the circle...me (good grief my puffy white vest certainly makes me look "puffy"! LOL), Vicki, Colan, Marilyn, Jim, Lynn and Harry...
It was a very chilly start to the day Saturday (Feb. 5)...2C/35.6F when I got up! Steve bundled up and headed out with Earl just after 9:00 to the Quartzsite Desert Flyers Fun Fly.

Over to Steve...
We weren't at the field long when a familiar face came walking over. It was Red who got me into RC flying. He and Pam decided not to boondock this year so are at an RV Park 20 miles from us in Brenda. We hope to get together with them soon for lunch.

There wasn't nearly the turnout this year of spectators or pilots as previous years. Missing were a couple of Canadian pilots from BC that are normally here with a trailer full of expensive gas planes...

This jet runs on kerosene but has to be started using propane to ignite the kerosene...
The pilot has a speed indicator and clocked in at 172 mph/276.8 kph!

Earl and I each bought half a dozen 50/50 tickets so waited in the cold until the draw at about 12:40. Some lucky guy won $340. Glad I wore my long johns and hunting jacket as I was chilled!

Steve here still :))
This afternoon it was time for our annual Beer Tasting Event. This was started a few years ago by Jim and Barb (missing in action the last few years :(( and ourselves after they picked up a selection of beers for us all to try from Total Wines. It's like a Costco of alcohol if you've never been to one.
I started us off . I brought a couple of variety packs from two different breweries in Victoria. It's expensive bringing Canadian booze to this event. For example a box of 30 Bud Lite here has cost me anywhere from $19.99 to $22. Back home it's $42!!!
Up next was Harry with a selection from Total Wines...
Jim's turn with their selection...
Colan passing around his birthday present from Earl...
Soon...snacks will be beamed down onto this table...LOL!
Watcha got there Harry?
And you Jim?
Todays participants...
Cec and Jim...As rare as a Sasquatch sighting is Jim smiling in a photo, but I finally got it!!! Anyone want copies let me know. LOL!!
Colan and Marilyn...
Allison and Earl...
Take Two :)) Vicki and Harry...
Lynn and Jim...are leaving the next day. Great seeing you both again...safe travels!
Our first campfire of the season as the firewood is getting very expensive here. Earl and I picked up a box and fortunately Jim and Cec found some deserted boxes of firewood on one of their rides. Thanks guys!
Fun Fly and beer tasting all in one day...doesn't get much better then that!
The morning after...

Sunday (Feb. 6) and a breezy day again. We had originally thought of having the Beer Tasting today because the forecast looked better...glad we stuck with yesterday! It had been breezy but as soon as our event started, it calmed down...bonus!

We had mostly an inside day...picture editing and working on the blog update. Shortly after 4:00 Cindy and Roger arrived...they are joining us for happy hour today! They are camped with their group quite a distance out the main road and have been taking side trips to various spots. We finally found them home and available for a visit! Good catching up!

Left to right around the circle...me, Cec, Jim, Colan, Marilyn, Roger, Cindy and Earl...
And that brings us up to date as our time out here on the desert continues!
