Thursday was yet another breezy day. Steve and I got out for a walk and then Steve went into town to get propane. I stayed home getting a lunch made and prepared for our quad ride this afternoon. We are going out geocaching with Earl and Allison.
It was about 11:00 when we headed out, following Allison and Earl. Unfortunately Steve's phone ran out of battery power so no Relive app video :(
Our first find...
Look at all the quartz rock!
This whole valley is very pretty!
Arriving at the Livingston Mine site...
A short 29 second video of the colourful rock at the mine entrance...We weren't able to find the geocache here and believe its missing... Dianne and Allison scrambling up the hill to find the next one while Earl checks our the road...
Great views up here. More 4 wheelers below heading to the mine...
Overlooking the 4 wheelers at the mine site...
We found a spot down below out of the wind to have lunch...
Teddy Bear Cholla. They may look fuzzy and cuddly from a distance but will stick to anything, and they hurt!. In fact Steve had to pull a big one out of my tire. We all have Green Slime in our tires to seal small leaks from the cactus.
Staghorn Cholla...
Steve's find in a dead Ocotillo...
This one was hard to find as the co-ordinates zeroed in on the other side of the rocky hill but Steve eventually found it in a small cave...
Earl found the light...
Looking back from where we came...
On to the next one!
Earl got this one too...
Steve couldn't believe the name on this one when he checked the next one on his GPS. Allison found it!
We didn't know what to expect when opening this geocache..."Stool Sample" LOL!!!
This one was in an ammo box...
Located above a wildlife watering site called a Guzzler...

Allison logging the next geocache...
Next to the geocache, the Pak Rats have been busy with the Teddy Bear Cholla. They use it as a defense when building their middens. How do they not get stuck!?!?

And yet another great time out on the quads! It is such a pretty area! Steve and I logged 16 more geocaches...bringing us up to a total of 1313. Far less than Earl and Allison have logged...but we're getting there!
A cool rainbow late this afternoon...
Friday (Dec. 31)...and another shopping trip to Parker with Earl and Allison. After stocking up, we were back home around 1:00 and spent the next couple of hours chilling inside...until it was time to go out back and play Core Crush. We played a few games and then about 5:00 headed inside to get dinner ready. We had a beautiful sunset tonight...so often it looks like it's going to be a beauty but fizzles out into nothing.
Earl and Allison joined us for a New Year's Eve Dinner....pork tenderloin, roast potatoes and beets (a delicious recipe Earl found...Yum!). After letting that digest for a bit, it was time for dessert...and we had 2! We started with warm pecan pie and whipped cream...hardly any calories in that! LOL!
Then we set up the Aggravation (Marble) game. Again, everyone won game(s) but me! More practice required, I guess.
We had our second dessert...Allison's delicious Banana Bread (with chocolate chips)...while watching the CNN NYE Countdown at 10:00 Arizona time. So we brought in the New Year on New York time...wished each other Happy New Year, and called it a night. A quiet but lovely New Year's Eve!
A lovely day geocaching and then a great New Year's Eve. Glad you have such good friends to spend time with. You might have had a lot of wind but at least the sun is out instead of the snow and rain we have been getting. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, glad we have sunshine! Do not miss the snow...stay warm!
DeleteTwo desserts!! Nice :) Leslie and I actually stayed up past midnight. We had 3 shows going Ottawa with Rick Mercer and New York and Nashville. Lots of good music playing and we may have had a shot to help celebrate. Cheers guys. Have a great year, play safe.
ReplyDeleteGood on you guys! Been years since we’ve actually made it to midnight for a western New Years. 🤣 All the best in 2022!
DeleteHappy New Year! You guys really need to try some Combat Geocaching. Adds a whole new element to your outdoor fun!
ReplyDeleteI bet it does! I think we'll pass! Happy New Year to you as well!
DeleteSounds like a great day!! Happy NewYear!!
ReplyDeleteIt was! Happy New Year to you and Steve! Look forward to seeing you at the end of the month.
