Sunday, December 26 to Wednesday, December 29, 2021 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Sunday (Dec. 26)...the day after Christmas is called 'Boxing Day' in Canada and is another federal statutory holiday. Though it originated as a holiday to give gifts to the poor, today Boxing Day is primarily known as a shopping holiday (similar to 'Black Friday' in the USA). Today, however, there will be no shopping...we are going on another ATV ride to a very beautiful and picturesque area we call 'Skull Rock' in the Kofa Mountains.

Sue and Bob, ATV friends from Prince George, BC, are joining us. Just having a little chat before we hit the trails! I'll pass this off to Steve for his GoPro photos...
And we were off shortly after 10:30 with Earl and Allison in the lead...Allison is in the driver's seat today...
We used our 'Relive App' again, click on the following link to view the 2 minute video.. Skull Rock, Towerless Mtn, Scott Well.

Kofa Mountains...
It's a very long 26 miles, approximately, just to the valley entrance!

Arriving at our final rest break before heading into the valley to Skull Rock...
This is also as far as you can go to camp...
Looking left...
Looking right...
Looking back...
And we're off!
We never get tired of these spectacular views...

Of course the sun is in the wrong position for some photos!

Pictures just don't capture the grand scale of some of these towering mountains...

Getting close!

Arriving at Skull Rock...
Tail gunners Bob and Sue. Can you see Skull Rock?

The interior has been blackened from campfires...
I climbed to the base of the towering rock to get more photos. Can you see the open slot at it's base?
I'm sure one day it will fall!
The sheep or deer like to hang here as there were lots of pellets on the trail...

The valley behind the slot...
Our 4 wheelers in the distance. When in bloom this valley is a sea of yellow...

Earl/Allison, Bob/Sue, Dianne and Steve...
The views are always different on the way out...

We know what you're probably thinking :))

We're back out of the valley...
We're now on our way to a mountain top lookout that has an abandoned microwave tower and building. I was somewhat confused because we should have been able to see the tower by now...
After quite a few more miles we start heading up...

The building and tower are gone! They were here 2 years ago...

Allison checking out the view...
The sun ruined this shot but you can see the flat area in the distance that we just came from...
All that's left is an old trailer and pit toilet...
From where the building used to be...view of the road we came up...
Back down we go...

Arriving at Scott Well...

The windmill pumps water to the tank below...
...that supplies water to a wildlife watering trough
It's been a very long ride, time to head home...

Another great day out on the quads...but a long 6 hours and 77 miles!

Monday (Dec. 27) and Tuesday (Dec. 28) were rather cool, windy days. Other than regular chores around here, we really didn't do much.

Wednesday (Dec. 29) started with a beautiful sunrise...
Today was laundry day. We had been putting it off, watching the weather for a good day with little wind. Well, that didn't work! Come Wednesday, the forecast had changed to be fairly blustery in the afternoon. But we had already put it off too long...we had 5 huge bags full and it had to be done no matter what. So, again, instead of using our clothesline, we used the dryers at the laundromat...but managed to put the things that don't go in the dryer on the line when we got home. They were not totally dry before I had to take them off due to the wind.

For dinner tonight, Earl and Allison suggested we order takeout pizza from Silly Al's...and have beer, pizza and a game night at their place. They were back with the pizza just after 5...an early dinner, a beer/wine or 2 and 5 games of Rummikub. Apparently I suck at this game...Earl and Allison each won 2 games, Steve 1...and me zilch! Oh well...a fun evening with good food and great company!

    1. Wonderful memories. Although a long ride to get there, it's certainly worth it once you're there.

  3. I like the Relive app video, adding the map gives your ride some perspective. Good one! Weather looks great. We have some blue skies but of course much colder. Ugh :(

    1. It's a really cool app...just have to ensure our cell battery is fully charged when we use it on a long ride!
      Stay warm! :)
