Wednesday and Thursday, August 29 and 30 (Part 1), 2018 (Woodhaven RV Park, Halifax. Nova Scotia)

Wednesday morning we put the finishing touches on another blog update...slowly getting there, but we continue to be about a month behind.

The laptop monitor is starting to act up...the screen flashes. I did some research on the Dell website and found a "Support Assist" software download that checks your PC for driver updates, and has other checks to run to ensure your PC is running optimally. Why don't they automatically have this on the PC when they sell it? Or at the very least let you know it's available. Sheesh! There ended up being a few driver updates required...hopefully that does the trick.

It was errand and chore day today. It was late morning when we headed out. There was a big shopping area not far away...that had a Best Buy, Walmart, Costco, only to mention a few. We started off at Best Buy, taking the laptop in to see if they could fix a Shift key that no longer worked. Turns out they would have to replace the whole keyboard...guess we'll just have to live with it, not paying to have the whole keyboard replaced! I also asked about the monitor issue and told her what I had done...she seemed to think this should fix the problem.

Next on the agenda...a haircut for Steve. And then a quick stop at Walmart for just a couple of things. I will do a big grocery shop just before we hit the road again next week.

Back home, I spent the rest of the afternoon doing laundry while Steve...you got it...continued working on picture editing.

Thursday was a very busy sightseeing day...so we have, again, split the blog post into two separate posts.

We left bright and early this morning at 8:00. We're off to Lunenburg, about an hour's drive from here. The morning started off foggy...but that cleared by the time we got to Lunenburg and it ended up being a very hot, humid day...with the humidex going up to 39C/102F!

Mahone Bay...
A very cute oceanfront community...

Maders Cove...
We were following our GPS route to the Lunenburg Visitor Centre but the streets were very narrow and steep...not really conducive for Buster. It didn't help that we ended up going down a steep hill only to find crews paving so we eventually gave up.

Bluenose Lodge...

After a little driving around, we finally found a spot to park the truck so we could get out and walk around this cool little town. It happened to be near the start of a boardwalk along the waterfront into town. Steve took lots of pictures...
Must be nice!

Looks like a net that's dragged along the ocean floor...

Marine creatures adorn the power poles along this street...

Such colourful buildings...
We took a look inside the Bluenose II Company Store. The original Blue Nose was launched in 1921 and was a racing fishing schooner that won the International Fishermen's Race for the next 17 years earning her the title of Queen of the North Atlantic. She was lost after striking a reef near Haiti in 1946. Blue Nose II was launched in 1963 and was gifted to the government of Nova Scotia in 1971 and is now a Goodwill Ambassador visiting ports throughout North America. We were hoping to see her but were disappointed to learn she was on display in Boston.
Blue Nose II under sail...
The original Blue Nose has adorned the dime since 1937 and three postage stamps, as well as the Nova Scotia license plate...

The yellow sign reads Lunenburg Heritage Homes...

After making our way back to the truck, we drove to a spot across the bay to get a shot of Lunenburg...
What a cool little spot...now it's time to move on to our next stop...stay tuned!

  2. The elementary school in Lunenburg was featured in a credit card commercial when we visited. Not many people knew where the sight for the commercial was filmed. It is such an adorable community. We had some of the best Digby scallops there along the water. We went across the bay for a photo, also!
