Okay...you must all be getting tired of the numerous photos of the wildlife...Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Zebras, Wildebeest, Gazelles, etc, etc...enough is enough! Well, today is our last day here bringing an end to our African Safari in Tanzania. Tomorrow, we fly to Rwanda to continue our adventures, albeit much different than our Tanzania experience.
So, one last blog...with a few final pictures of the incredible wildlife here in Tanzania. Not as many pictures, today though...I left the "chief photographer" in bed this morning. And unless I'm sitting in the passenger seat of Buster (our truck), I'm not comfortable using the "big" DSL camera, consequently my pictures aren't that great...
This morning roughly half of the group left super early to take a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti, leaving the rest of us (minus Steve) to head off on our morning game drive. The others would catch up with us a little later in the morning.
We came across another Leopard sitting high up in a tree...
And, of course, Elephants...lots of Elephants...
We stopped at the Seronera Visitor Centre...
I took a walk on the short interpretive trail...
I came across some Hyrax along the way...
It was quite a lovely walk...
Mwanza Flat-headed Rock Agama...very colourful!
Then we piled back into the Land Cruises to continue our drive...
I didn't do a very good job of capturing this crocodile...I only got the tail-end...
Topi...
The grass-fire is out but there are acres and acres of charred land. The Gazelles are already checking it out...
And our final new sighting...a Cheetah. Unfortunately, not a very clear picture...
We're on our way back to camp now...driving past more burnt land. There are still some flames burning...
And my favourite picture of a Zebra...this girl just stood and stared at me nodding her head and moving her mouth like she was talking to me...too funny!
We were back at camp in time for a late lunch. Steve was sitting having a cup of tea in the dining tent...he was slightly better, but not much. I guess one of the workers had checked in on him and suggested he have a shower and eat some eggs. Apparently the eggs were a no go. After his shower he sat outside in front of the tent in the shade to escape the heat in the tent. While looking around he was finding it incredibly hard to stay awake or even focus. Not knowing if he took out his contact lenses he put on his glasses and still couldn't focus properly so went to check his contact lens case. No contact lenses. Thinking he must still be wearing them he tried to take them out without success. He didn't remember taking them out last night (delirious maybe?) so they must have come out when he vomited.
I didn't go out on the final game drive this afternoon, staying with Steve...basically resting. They had a special dinner for us for our final night. All of the tables were set up outside with lights strung in the trees. Steve did managed to come down and join us. Marianne, Kaye, Joann, Steve, Alan and Annette...
Joyce, Barb, Raymond (of of the guides), Byron, Gordon and Esther...
After dinner, Gordon thanked each of the guides, presenting them with cards signed by each of us...
John, Bahati (aka Lucky), Onesmo, and Raymond...
The guides from Wild Frontier Africa were absolutely wonderful...
The camp workers and guides all performed a traditional dance (not a great picture...as I said, my 'chief photographer' was under the weather)....
Steve managed to eat a little only because he was concerned about taking the malaria pill Malarone on an empty stomach. However after returning to our tent he wanted to get ready for bed. While brushing his teeth he began to gag. Well that continued until he vomited, expelling that $5 Malarone pill! Poor thing...hope he's feeling better tomorrow for our flight...
Poor Steve!!..but the zebra picture is darn cute !
ReplyDeleteYes, he wasn't very happy getting sick while in the Serengeti!
DeleteIt was so cool having the zebra standing so close to the Land Cruiser having a "conversation" with me!
My favorite pics on this blog were the leopard and cheetah. How cool to see those. I feel bad for Steve but cannot help but chuckle thinking of him trying to take out the nonexistent contacts!
ReplyDeleteHaha...his poor eyeballs! He was in a pretty sad state for awhile....
