The weather forecast for the next couple of days is still really "iffy" but come Monday, the week is sunshine and warmer temperatures. So we decided to stay at least one more night here...and then see what tomorrow brings.
After paying for another night, we loaded our laundry into the truck and headed off in search of a laundromat. It turns out there are only 2 laundromats in Moab and they are both owned by the same company, Moab Laundry Express. It surprised me that there would only be 2 in an area like Moab where there are so many campgrounds. I guess some of the private campgrounds have their own (ours doesn't), and the hotels must have their own laundry service.
We ended up at the Laundry Express on a side street right in Moab across from the Food Truck Park. When we pulled up in front, it looked very busy with all of the cars out front, but they must have been visiting the Food Trucks across the street. Steve managed to pull over enough, put his flashers on, and drop me and the laundry off. He went home while I lugged 2 laundry bags into the laundromat. To my surprise, it was not at all busy!
The laundromat was very clean and had nice front loader washers...$3.50 for double and $4.50 for triple loader. That worked out well for me...one of each worked perfectly! About an hour and a half later, I texted Steve that I was finished. While I was doing laundry, Steve was doing chores back at the trailer. After lunch, we put the laundry away and Steve helped me make up the bed...that is lots of fun with an 'east-west' bed...
With the chores done, I really wanted to go into town and check out the shops...it's quite a touristy place. We were lucky to find an empty RV parking spot behind the Moab Information Center so we parked and went in to look around before we headed out on Main Street. We walked up one side and down the other, checking out the shops, mainly selling t-shirts and souvenirs...
Zax Restaurant looks really cool...hmmm...might have to have a meal there at some point...
With the wandering done, we were back in the truck and heading to Village Market for a couple of things. The market happened to be in the same complex as Moab Brewery, so of course, we had to go in to try one of their brews!
Back home, Steve took a picture of the snow covered La Sal Mountains...
It was a good day...half chores and half fun! It ended up being a really warm, lovely day!
We woke to the sound of light rain on the trailer roof Sunday (Oct. 20) morning. The rain didn't last long and the forecast was for some sun to peek through for a few hours before the rain returned. So we decided to stay put another night.
The morning sun on the surrounding mountains...
After breakfast, showers and dishes, we paid for another night and then headed off in the truck to explore. We decided to go check out highway 128, where Goose Island Campground is...it was full Thursday when we arrived, today only a couple of empty sites, one that would fit us. We continued along highway 128...
Following the Colorado River...Amazing scenery...
Steve took a 27 second video...
About 15.5 miles along highway 128, we came across Red Cliff Lodge...we had no idea this beautiful lodge and property was out here.
We parked and started our walk around the property...starting with the Lodge...
The lobby area...
A very personable, friendly receptionist welcomed us and suggested we check out the Moab Museum of Film and Western Heritage located downstairs...
We went back upstairs for another picture...this is the entrance to the restaurant...
Looking back at the restaurant side of the lodge...
Lots of rafters out today...
The River Deck...
Inside the River Deck. There were two levels for sitting, including a bar and kitchen...
Fire pit seating in front of the River Deck...
By the time we had finished our walk, it was lunch time so we went back inside to the restaurant...
Not a bad view from our table!
A few more pictures outside before we head off...this little guy was being very still. If I don't move, they won't see me, LOL...Playground with more lodging in behind as well as a gym and pool further down...More lodging...
Looking back as we leave...
Horse Stables and trail rides...In addition to the accommodations around the lodge, there are also cabins further along the river...
Rafting down the river...
More incredible scenery as we drive back to highway 191 (the main highway through Moab)...This foot/bike path goes on for miles. Bikes are very popular here now...
Foot/bike path bridge...
Once back to highway 191, we turned right, going north. We thought we'd drive towards Canyonland National Park and check out Horsethief BLM Campground where we stayed in 2011, in case we can't get into Goose Island Campground tomorrow.
Quite the colouring on that hillside...
Onto highway 313 towards Canyonlands...
The road into Horsethief Campground was in pretty bad shape, especially for Buster. But we bounced along, made it the half mile to the campground and drove the 2 loops inside. This is a much bigger campground and there were a number of vacant sites available.
After driving through the campground, we headed back home. Lots of different and beautiful scenery along this highway too, but more on that in another blog...we'll be back!
It was about 2:30 as we approached Moab Rim Campark and our home on the right...looks like we're in for a major storm! We had no sooner settled back in the trailer and the thunder, lightning and a major downpour with very strong winds started...good timing!
Oh...by the way, I managed to add our 2024 Travel Map to the blog today. Take a look!
One of the things that Barb is insisting on in our next rig is a "walk-around bed". No more bed-making aerobics for her. Moab is such a beautiful and unique place, I never get tired of seeing pictures of that area.
ReplyDeleteWe knew that bed was going to be a pain in the @$$ but think we got a good deal on the trailer from Dianne’s brother. Glad you never get tired of pictures of the Moab area because there will be lots coming your way. 🤣 Cheers! 🍻
DeleteLooking forward to exploring more of Moab next year, we're taking notes!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful area. Stay tuned!
DeleteYou are finally touring as you planned from being home last year. Wish we were there too. :)
ReplyDeleteSo nice to be traveling again!

ReplyDeleteIt sure is!
DeleteBeautiful!! Those cliffs are so cool. That lodge is a great find, could spend some time checking out the westerns. John Wayne was so awesome...pardner ;)
ReplyDeleteThose cliffs are nothing compared to what we’ll be seeing next. So much reading in that little museum and not enough time…but very interesting. Cheers!
DeleteWe've never been to Moab. So beautiful...
ReplyDeleteIt sure is! Definitely recommend a visit if you get a chance.
