Wednesday, March 1 to Tuesday, March 7, 2023 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Well this week started off with another wind advisory on Wednesday (Mar.1st)..."West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected". Although rain was also in the forecast, we certainly weren't expecting it to rain as much as it did! There was far more water on the desert floor later in the day then this photo shows...
Needless to say, today was another inside day...we have certainly had plenty of those, especially in the last week! Steve worked on picture editing and then we managed to get a blog update done and posted.

At 3:45 Dave and Leslie picked us up and we headed to Silly Al's Pizza for dinner...we were meeting Harry, Vicki, Dave, Cheryl, Colan and Marilyn there.

After being stuck inside all day, it was nice to get out and see everyone! As usual, great pizza and lots of fun at Silly Al's!
We were back home just in time to watch the season premier of Survivor...Season 44, wow! We have been faithful watchers from the beginning and so have Dave and Leslie. They came over and at 6:00, we settled down in front of the TV...we were a little concerned that we may have lost the satellite signal with all the wind and rain but, thankfully, it was fine.

Thursday (Mar. 2) morning was a chilly start with 45 F/7C inside and 43F/6C outside...but the forecast is for sunshine and much calmer winds than yesterday.

Steve filled the trailer with fresh water while I did some housework and then we got out for a walk. What a difference from yesterday!

Through the humid haze we noticed there was snow on the nearby mountains...something you don't see very often and is just so wrong!
The KOFA mountains...
And the mountain we call Horseface...
We went into town with Dave and Leslie to run some errands and then we chilled until 3:30 when we all gathered for happy hour and some games of 10,000.
After a fun few hours, everyone dispersed and I went inside to get prepared for dinner. Leslie and Dave had invited us over to share in a turkey dinner. Delicious!
Just before 7:30 Steve and I went home for a pre-planned video call with Steve's Uncle Gord and Aunt Esther in Edmonton...a call way overdue! Great seeing and talking with them! A half hour later, we were back at Leslie and Dave's for dessert.

Friday (Mar. 3) was a nice day...a slight breeze off and on, sunny and warm especially when in the sun against the trailer. It was even calm enough for Steve to take his Aero Scout plane out for some flights. I walked out to watch and took some pictures.

A short 28 second video...
Harry and Vicki leave tomorrow and have been busy packing up. Steve went over to put down their solar panels so Harry wouldn't have to climb up on the roof (he is still recovering from a hip replacement)...
At around 3:30, everyone came over...time for happy hour and games of 10,000! Leslie taking her turn...
Debbie's turn...
As the sun got lower in the sky, it was time to light the campfire...
Roasting hot dogs...
Harry, Vicki, Marilyn, Debbie, Leslie, Dave R, Dave M, Cheryl, me and Colan...
A great afternoon and evening!

Saturday  (Mar. 4) morning we said goodbye to Harry and Vicki...so good seeing you both! Safe travels and enjoy the rest of your winter.

At about 10:15, we all headed out to the Desert Bar. Dave M, Cheryl, Colan and Marilyn in Dave's truck...and Dave R, Leslie, Steve and I in Dave's truck. Approximately 5 miles north of Parker, is Cienega Springs Road and the turnoff to the Desert Bar...as well as the end of pavement. The road has not improved at all over the years and is one of the bumpiest lumpiest 5 miles of road to the bar. But it certainly does not deter folks from going on it.

The Nellie E Saloon Desert Bar is only open from the first weekend in October thru to the last weekend in April from noon until 6 pm on weekends only. We have found it wise to be there by 11:30 to get a good table. We even managed to order lunch before the crowds arrived. When you go, you mustn't forget to take cash...lots of cash...no credit cards allowed, and the food is pretty pricey. Steve and I both had cheeseburgers at a total cost of $38...burgers only, no fries. Mind you, it was a very delicious burger! Cans of beer were $4.50 ea.
Dave/Leslie, me/Steve, Dave/Cheryl, Marilyn and Colan...
After lunch, Steve went for a walk to take pictures. Horse shoe bench outside of the horse shoe pit...
The original Desert Bar shack on the right, original men's and women's bathrooms on the left. It certainly has improved!
Steve climbed the two hills to get a photo from both sides. They have made some major changes since we were here last. The new food grill is under the orange roof to the left. To the right of it are the new washrooms.

We're seated along the glass railing this side of the umbrella. There's another bar to the right of the umbrella as well as additional shaded areas covered with solar panels. You can see additional steel beams for future solar/shade coverage. The entire place is solar powered...
An arch at the top of the  hill...
Another view of the original Desert Bar...
A short 26 second video...
That's Dave M. way up there checking out the arch!
The ladies restroom is very cool...including the view as you wash your hands!
The place was packed shortly after noon...
The band playing today wasn't that great...previous bands we have seen have been excellent.
Weddings have been held here too...
After a couple of hours, it was time for the bumpy ride back to the highway...
This guy didn't make it...LOL!
As we leave, there is a steady stream of vehicles coming and going...
More vehicles coming in in the distance, 4 wheeler trail on the right...
Sunday (Mar. 5) morning Colan, Marilyn, Steve and I headed out on one of our last rides...Diablo Pass again.
Lots of work being done on the new dump and water station across the highway in La Posa Tyson Wash. Apparently they will be closing the one we use at La Posa South. There's another huge section just beyond here cleared on the other side of the Old Yuma Road...
Some desert pictures...
The bloom has started...
Colan and Marilyn arriving at Diablo Pass...
The road ahead...
Dome Basin Mine...our lunch stop...

From above the mine shaft...
Blossoms next to the mine...
Looking back at the road we came in on and time to go. California in the distance...

First time we've ever seen any activity at this mine...

Steve's going across the valley first to video us...

He's at the top...
A 1 min/43 sec video ...
And of course, a stop at Beer Belly's Adult Day Care to wash the dust down...
Monday (Mar. 6) morning Leslie and I loaded our dirty laundry bags into their truck and we went into Main Street Laundromat...where we spent a fun-filled couple of hours, LOL!

The morning had started off quite nice but the clouds eventually took over and although not as windy as it has been, a strong breeze did come up.

A pretty sunset tonight...
Tuesday (Mar. 7) morning Steve did one final pump and dump. We leave Sunday for Yuma, so will empty the holding tanks on our way out. After he had finished that, he dismantled the macerator, cleaned it and packed it away. He also took down the clothesline and put a few things away...the start of our pack up.

I worked on this blog update and once Steve was finished, we headed out with Dave and Leslie for a burger at Carl's Jr...our first time at this fast food spot. After that, we went on a driving tour of Rainbow Acres...a cool community just outside of Q. There is a mixture of homes, park models, and RV lots. This is a fully serviced double wide RV lot for rent.
It ended up being a beautiful sunny day so happy hour included some games of Core Crash and 10K...and the last one with Dave and Cheryl as they are leaving tomorrow.

Dave R. taking his turn...
Leslie...
Colan, Marilyn,  Dave R, Dave M, Cheryl, Steve and Debbie...
So nice to have some warmth in that sun and no wind! Back in shorts and flip-flops again... finally!

    1. We missed going to the Desert Bar last year so it was nice returning and seeing the improvements. Now that we’re leaving soon the weather is finally warming up! 🙁 After 13 years of full timing we’re definitely looking forward to making a few changes. Cheers!

  3. Nice season wrap up. Are they permanently closing the water and dump at LaPosa or upgrading it? So both sides will have dumps now?

  4. We've managed to pack in lots of friends time and fun in just a couple of weeks. You two could be Quartzsite chamber of commerce ambassadors! Best thing about the road to Desert Bar is getting back on the highway....ahhhh pavement lol. It was a really good burger though, in Canadian$$ I would have to take off my socks to calculate. Well worth it though, it's a cool place. Great pic of my throwing form at 10k, 500 for sure lol. Cheers guys, thanks for a great time as usual. Cheers!
