Saturday, September 17 to Tuesday, October 4, 2022 (Peace Arch RV Park, Surrey, BC)

Here we are...another couple of weeks have slipped by! Not an awful lot going on other than the usual routine stuff. Steve is also slowly knocking off items on his "to do list" in preparation for heading south October 15. But we have had a few highlights of what we have been doing!

Our weather has been fabulous as we head into fall...although rain is needed, I'm sure it will come soon enough but in the meantime we'll enjoy all this beautiful sunshine!

Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon Chris, Angela and Isaac came out for a visit and dinner. Although it was a warm sunny day, the pool here at the park has been closed for the season. Instead of swimming, though, Isaac took his bike out for a little practice. He's definitely improving!
Isaac enjoying dessert after dinner...
After a great visit, they headed home just before 8:00 p.m.

Monday (Sept. 19) morning we had a cool start to the day...time to start leaving our electric heater on low overnight! But with the clear blue sky through the day, the temperature got up into the low 20'sC. Definitely can feel 'fall in the air' though!

A beautiful calm morning for our walk at Crescent Beach...
Tuesday (Sept. 20) morning, we headed back to Crescent Beach, but instead of walking the beach trail, we took the trails of Blackie Spit...
Wednesday (Sept. 21) morning we tried going back to Crescent Beach for our walk but the traffic was backed up the way we usually go due to construction, so we turned around and decided to try another route. Well, that was backed up just as much, so we ended up back at the campground and walking there. So much road construction going on everywhere!

By late morning, I headed off to my haircut appointment and when I got home, the truck was gone...Steve had taken it to get the camera monitor display checked. It started acting up quite some time ago after hitting a bump on a highway and only works intermittently now. We have two cameras on the truck and two on the trailer. Of course the display stayed on the entire way to the service centre, and while there. (Murphy's Law!) The tech said it's hard to troubleshoot when it's working but did some dismantling of the area where the display is mounted as well as part of the dash checking for loose wiring finding nothing. He suspects the display may need replacing. So far it has continued to work properly.

Thursday (Sept. 22) was a big night for us! We are going to the Eagles concert at Rogers Arena in downtown Vancouver! Rather than drive home afterwards, I booked a room at the Rosedale on Robson...using our Vacation Internationale timeshare membership. So a date night for us, LOL! And it's within walking distance from the arena.

Our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived at the hotel, so we went into the adjoining restaurant, Original Joe's, for a brew. What better way to start off our evening!
The only room available when I booked was a 2-bedroom suite. It was really nice but it's kind of crazy having a unit that will sleep 6 people and only have one bathroom!

The living room/kitchen area as you come into the suite (the one bathroom was at the entrance) with the 2 bedrooms having full windows. The master bedroom is at the end to the left and the other bedroom to the right...
The master bedroom...
And the view out the window. The circular building is the Vancouver Library.
All the restaurants near Rogers Arena will be very busy because of the concert, so we went to Brown's Social House at 5:00 to get a table. I tried reserving a table but it's first come-first serve on concert nights.
We had a nice relaxing drink (or 2) before dinner...we have lots of time, after all, since the doors don't open until 7:00...
There were huge crowds lined up at all gates to enter the arena but once the doors opened, it didn't take long to get in...and find our seats!
The Eagles came on just after 8:00 p.m...and played for 3 hours, taking one short break.
Original member Glenn Frey passed away in 2016. His son Deacon filled in for 4 1/2 years quitting the band last April to forge his own path. Vince Gill (left) has toured with the band since 2017 and did a fantastic job as a singing replacement for Glenn Frey.
It was a fabulous concert but we must admit that we thought the one in Edmonton years ago, that included a horn section, was better.

When it was over, we were in the midst of the hordes of people leaving the area. We decided on a nightcap back at Brown's before calling it a night. We were up way past our bedtime, LOL!

Saturday (Sept. 24) afternoon we packed an overnight bag and headed into Chris and Angela's place. They have a wedding to go to and we are looking after Isaac and staying the night.

We had great fun with our little guy!! Silly Grampa playing catch with the (soft) soccer ball...
We ordered pizza in for dinner...
Chillaxing after  dinner...
Before it was time to get ready for bed...Grampa "trying on" Isaac's pj's...
After reading him a few books, it was lights out and he was down for the night. Wow, how easy was that?!

Sunday (Sept. 25) morning Chris made us a big breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast...thanks Chris! Angela had a work function to go to so after saying goodbye to her, Chris got Isaac ready for soccer. Today is his first day at a new soccer venue, and Steve and I are going with them to watch.
The practice is inside at one of the big sports complexes in Burnaby. Little did we know that the indoor soccer field would be sandwiched between 2 ice rinks! Steve and I froze watching them...but Isaac and Dad kept warm with all their running around. They are on the far right listening to the instructor...
Isaac is great at dribbling the soccer ball...

Watching all the little ones learning to play soccer was so funny...but by the time the 50 minutes was up, they all seemed tired. Isaac certainly was!

On Tuesday (Sept. 27) morning we went for our favourite walk along Crescent Beach. The shoreline was peppered with hundreds of birds!
That afternoon, we went into Chris and Angela's to look after Isaac so they could go out for their anniversary dinner. Wow...it's been 8 years already! Happy Anniversary!

Playing a board game with Isaac...
We put  Isaac to bed after reading him a couple of books...and, again, not a peep out of him after I tucked him in and said goodnight.

Chris and Angela got home just before 8:30 and by the sound of it, really enjoyed their dinner out. Shortly afterwards, we said goodnight and headed home.

Wednesday (Sept. 28) morning we went for our usual morning walk and then got ready to head out to run some errands...including getting our 4th COVID vaccine shot. So glad when the province finally announced it was available and we got our email invitation to book an appointment. It has been almost 10 months since our last booster!

On our way home, we decided to stop for a late lunch. The new Tap and Barrel Restaurant in South Surrey just opened yesterday...finally! The sign said it was scheduled to open in the Summer 2022...a tad bit late but glad we got a chance to try it before we leave.
Back home, I put on a load of laundry. I had taken 2 bags over to Chris's last night, put one load on and then completely forgot about it! At least I remembered in time to get it dry before we left. Consequently I had one final load left to do.

On my way back from the laundry, neighbours Ralph and Linda, invited us over for happy hour. We have been meaning to get together and now, with them leaving Friday for 2 weeks, today was the day since they get back the day we leave.
Thursday (Sept. 29) late afternoon we headed into Burnaby. Angela's parents had invited us over for dinner. Angela had dropped Chris off at work this morning, so we picked him up just before 5:30 and met Angela and Isaac there.

Luigi grilling Italian Sausages...
We enjoyed a great dinner with Luigi and Lucy...
A wonderful visit and the last time we will see them before we head south in a couple of weeks.

Sunday (Oct. 2) afternoon Chris, Angela and Isaac were planning to come for a final visit and dinner but a scratchy throat I have had the last couple of days turned into a chest cold with runny nose. I'm not stuffed up and feel fine and 2 Covid tests came back with negative results, so it's just an ordinary cold, thank goodness! Anyway, Chris and Angela decided not to come out...we have seen them quite a bit lately anyways.

Monday (Oct. 3) and Tuesday (Oct. 4) were basically spent running errands and getting ready to head over to Vancouver Island. It will be nice to see family and friends one final time...plus I have an appointment on Friday with my orthopedic doctor to have an injection in my knee.

Good friends, Earl and Allison, who usually join us in Quartzsite, have kindly offered to let us store our car along with the boat and boat loader off the truck. Unfortunately, they are not going south this year...we will certainly miss them!

Tomorrow, we have reservations  on the 10:00 a.m. ferry sailing...for both the car and the truck. Looking forward to our final visit!

  2. The Eagle's?!?!? How cool is that? I like Vince Gill as well so it would be cool to see him. You sure are getting a lot of Isaac time before you head south! Safe travels.

    1. We figured this would probably be the last time we'd see our favourite band. Deciding not to travel this summer due to high fuel prices certainly gave us much more family time which is a bonus.
