Saturday, February 1, 2014 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

The clear blue skies have returned but it's still very windy out today and the temperatures for the next week or so are only to reach the low to mid 60's  (15 to 18 C). Today we are going out on our ATV's with Allison and Earl geocaching...a new string of caches have been put out. We were all set to go shortly before 10:00 when Steve went out to get our boots out of the trailer garage...to find water everywhere! One of the 1 gallon fresh water jugs had sprung a leak! So, the clean up had to be dealt with before we could go anywhere. He had to pull out all of the boxes...and dry everything out...

So it was just before noon by the time we headed out...sorry for the delay, Earl and Allison! We crossed the highway and went through La Posa Tyson Wash and once at the wash headed north past the "big tent"...which is almost all down now after the RV show.

Along the way, we stopped and found a geocache hidden by Earl and Allison a few weeks ago (no, they didn't help us) and then continued on until we came to the start of the string of 24 caches. This one was in an old tin can buried in the dirt and hidden by a rock on top of it...

This one was hidden among the branches of a dead Ocotillo bush...

And this one was a particularly tricky one...on the end of a piece of wire hidden inside a dead Cholla cactus...

This was a pretty easy find...

Eventually we found all 24 caches in the series...now it was time to head home. Instead of going back the way we came, we continued along the trail.

The trail eventually came out at Dome Rock Road, where we crossed under the I-10....

...and back onto BLM land...

We stopped here for a break...Earl is explaining that this is the start of his night geocache. You park on the road and then walk in with flashlights looking for the markers that will lead you to it. It's something we haven't done yet...hopefully we get a chance before we leave the area.

We were back home at about 3:30...another great, albeit windy, afternoon! The wind is good when you are riding because it clears the dust but in about an hour or so we are having happy hour outside...oh well, we'll just have to huddle as close to the trailer as possible. At least the wind is not coming from the south like it was the other day.

Eric, Earl, Allison. Bob and Sue all came over for happy hour...and to discuss our travel plans. We are leaving next Friday for Yuma where we plan on going on an ATV ride Saturday and attending the Yuma Mega Geocaching Event on Sunday. On Monday we are all going to travel to Ocotillo Wells SVRA (State Vehicular Recreation Area) in California. Steve and I were there last January (2013) and had a great time riding the trails, so we thought the others might also enjoy it.

Friday, January 31, 2014 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

It wasn't as windy today as it had been yesterday but there was still a brisk breeze coming from the south. And the clear blue skies and high temps that we have been enjoying for a number of weeks was gone...replaced with broken cloud and lower temps. On the whole, not bad, though, especially with what eastern US and Canada have been experiencing.

Shortly before 10:00 we were ready to get out for a morning walk. As we were approaching Bob and Sue's place we noticed that their trailer door was open even though the truck was gone. Bob was home (Sue had gone into town to do laundry) so we stopped in and had a visit with him. After a bit we figured we should get on with our walk...we're not getting much cardio sitting here! So we continued on our walk, deciding to stop at Rob and Joyce's motorhome since they were still here. After a quick chat, we were on our way again...our cardio workout this morning was somewhat interrupted...but at least we got out for some exercise.

Back home, we puttered around a bit and then I made lunch. After we had eaten, it was time to get to work. I tried out the new air powered beater bar for the vacuum while Steve headed outside to program 10 tire sensors to the tire pressure/temp monitor. Then he was on to fueling up the generator and quads and refilling our drinking water jugs from our 5 gal. containers.

Again....that was our day...not terribly exciting...but there was a beautiful sunset tonight...
