After all of the company we had over the last week, Sunday (August 30) was very quiet around here! I kept busy, though, doing laundry...loads and loads of laundry...and changing the bedding on all the beds. Steve kept busy too, so by 3:30 we were both ready for 'Sunday Services'...at Jakes at the Lake, where we enjoyed a brew and then returned home...
Monday morning (August 31) the lake was flat...barely a ripple, so Steve decided to head out fishing.
While he was gone, I went out for a walk...time to get back into that routine! I ended up walking 4 km into town and back. Steve got home as I was getting into the shower...he said he had a nice boat ride (meaning no fish caught) LOL!
We sat down on the dock after lunch for awhile and when the wind came up, decided to come up to the lawn and have a few games of cornhole...
Tuesday morning (Sept. 1) Steve headed out fishing again and I went out for a walk...a repeat of yesterday morning.
I did the same walking route as yesterday...and Steve had another nice "boat ride".
After lunch we decided to go out and do a little exploring at Cowichan River Provincial Park...
We started off at Marie Canyon...
Marie Canyon is a sheer rock gorge on the Cowichan River, where the whole river funnels into a narrow slot and pushes through carved stone. It sits in Cowichan River Provincial Park, just below Skutz Falls and about 30 minutes west of Duncan. A short trail from the day-use parking area drops to the canyon floor, where you can stand on the rock and watch the water work through.
There was a steep trail that went down to the canyon floor...but it was far too steep for me. Of course, Steve went down...

We stopped at Skutz Falls Forestry Road on our way back and walked out onto the bridge for a couple of pictures...

Wednesday (Sept. 2)...a couple of appointments, nothing exciting!
Thursday morning (Sept. 3) Steve joined me on my walk into town. As we neared town, we decided to check out a trail. We have passed the sign...Ted Burns Nature Preserve...many times, so let's have a look to see where it goes...
Well, it ended up at Kaatza Station Museum...the same place where we would have passed had we continued on the sidewalk. We have never checked the museum out, and we still haven't gone inside as it was closed, but there are a lot of displays outside that Steve had to check out. I waited for a bit and then decided to just carry on my walk.
Friday morning (Sept. 4)...mist over the water...
Saturday (Sept. 5)...as you can probably tell, this is my favourite view. The lake is very calm this morning!
These electric hydrofoils are very popular here and incredibly expensive! You can rent them across the lake...10 second video...
Sunday morning (Sept. 6) our walk took us into town, along the main street, passing Jakes at the Lake...

The Duck Pond Bridge is a charming pedestrian footbridge located near the popular swimming area known as the Duck Pond at Ohtaki Park off Park Road and South Shore Road in Lake Cowichan, BC
We learned that Brad works at Dockyard and was at Steve's retirement BBQ...small world!

We came across this abandoned Chevy Impala on the trail...
We were back just after 1:30 and after putting our purchases away, Steve took me out for a boat ride...
Some beautiful...and huge...homes on the lake...
Yup, there's a bear in the area! It pooped smack-dab in the middle of the trail. It wasn't steaming but it was wet!
Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day...stay tuned!
Monday (Sept. 7) we drove to Spring Beach Recreation Site for our walk (see previous map above for location). It is a Sites and Trails BC day use area...
Sitting on the deck after dinner, Steve noticed a doe wandering through the yard. We were waiting for the barking dog alarm to go off that's located across from the bench but I guess it wasn't dark enough yet.

Tuesday (Sept. 8) we headed to Costco in Nanaimo to stock up on a few things...it's just over an hour drive from here.
Wednesday morning (Sept. 9) we drove the car the short distance to the trailhead for the Trans Canada Trail and walked to the trestle and back...
We were woken shortly after midnight Thursday (Sept. 10) to the chirping of the smoke detector indicating a low battery. The detector is on the ceiling in the living room and there is no way we could do anything about it so we moved down to the basement bedroom for the rest of the night.
After talking with Deb (well, texting) she called their electrician who said they would be out between 1:00 and 2:00...that was later followed by 3:00 to 4:00. So after listening to "chirp-chirp" every 30 seconds, we were very happy to see the electrician finally arrive at 4:20.
