Wednesday, February 15 to Tuesday, February 21, 2023 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

At the rate in which the weeks are flying by, we'll be home before we know it! We have just two and a half weeks left here before we go back down to Yuma for a week to finish up with Steve's dental appointments.

Wednesday (Feb. 15) morning when Steve opened the blinds, he was shocked to see how dirty the windows were...and the trailer, truck, quads, etc! All of the wind and dust, along with the rain we had last night made one heck of a mess!
Jim and Barb left this morning for Yuma and dental appointments in Los Algodones. They will be back tomorrow. (Steve here) If your a reader of Jim and Barb's blog, the one he posted when they arrived, Jim claimed that we put them in a spot a quarter mile away and that they snuck up close to us over night. Well they were too close, so when they left for Yuma we grabbed their chairs and mat and dropped them off at a site as far away as we could that had just opened up along the wash across from Harry and Vicki. Turns out they loved that spot for their dogs Dakota and Zoey, but Harry was not happy! 😉

It was basically a windy day again today...not as bad as yesterday but still windy enough to hunker down inside. We did go into town for drinking water and propane though.

At 4:00 we decided to try sitting outside against the trailer...the wind was coming from the north/northwest, so we had a bit of a buffer from it. Harry and Vicki joined us...great having them here!

Thursday (Feb. 16) morning was a cold start...there had been a hard freeze warning issued yesterday. The outside temperature on our thermometer said it was 0.5C/33F...thank goodness we had left the heater on low last night.

It was another cold, windy day...but at least the sky was blue! So it was mostly an inside day. Steve did go next door to Harry and Vicki's to clean the dried mud off of their solar panels from the last storm. Harry just had a hip replacement last November so Steve was mortified to discover Harry had climbed up onto his roof to tilt his solar panels the other day. Bad Harry!
By 4:00 the wind had calmed down a bit, and again, it was coming from the north, so we managed to sit outside for happy hour. The gang joined us...left, around the circle...Jim, Dave, Cheryl, Marilyn, Debbie, Vicki, Steve, Harry, Jim and Barb (they rushed back from Yuma to join us, LOL)...
Jim and Barb walking back to their truck/camper in it's new spot...way over there! Now just to the right of their camper is what we call Horse Face Mountain. If you magnify the picture we see a running horse in the chin area of a mans face that is looking up...
Friday (Feb. 17) and yet another windy, cloudy, cool day! After some chores were done, we spent the day inside, again.

At 4:00 Harry, Vicki, Jim, Barb and Steve and I headed into Silly Al's Pizza. We are meeting more RV friends, Steve and Debbie, another couple of RV-Dreamers that we met here in early 2016. We have pretty much seen them every year, even if they aren't staying here, they try to stop for a visit. Today, they are camped out at Alamo Lake for a couple of nights before continuing onto Surprise to visit family and wanted to see us all, so they are driving the hour and a half to Q.

Jim and Barb, me and Steve, Steve and Debbie, Harry and Vicki...
After dinner everyone came back to our place for a little beer tasting and more visiting. Jim pouring the first brew...
Cheers!

A fun evening with lots of laughs...so glad you made the trip to see us, Steve and Debbie! They left at 10:30 and unfortunately they had another hour and a half drive back to Alamo Lake! A late night for them...and us!

Saturday (Feb. 18) morning Steve lined up all the beer cans/bottles from last night. Not bad...14 beer plus a few shots that Jim and Barb shared! Yup, it was a great night!
Just before 8:15, Steve headed off with Dave to watch the Quartzsite Desert Flyer's RC Club's "Fun Fly". I'll pass it over to him now...

Before the show we checked out the planes along the pilots flight line...
These are stunt planes...

This is a very serious and expensive sport for some...

Dave and I watching the show...
I have no idea what most of these planes are...

Sadly seconds after taking this photo the pilot crashed his WWII P-51 Mustang. Hopefully he can salvage some usable parts from the wreckage...

A 15 second video...hanging on the prop...

I have the same Aero Scout trainer...

The pilot that crashed his WWII P-51 Mustang had another slightly smaller one, missing it's nose cone...
 He's not having a good day...now it's missing a flap too!
An electric ducted fan jet...
This stunt plane had an interesting colour scheme...

Cessna 150...
To me this one resembles some sort of flying bug I've seen in the past...
The pilot that crashed his two P-51 Mustangs had better luck with his North American T-28 Trojan...it even had a recorded engine sound which I've never heard before...
The only helicopter at the show...
Doing all kinds of stunts...including flying upside down!
WWII Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber...

An Air Tractor commonly used for crop dusting or as a water bomber...
This years event didn't have as many pilots as years past but was still fun to watch. Unfortunately due to a lack of volunteers the food vendors cancelled at the last minute.

If interested I have created an album with additional photos at the air show...Quartzsite Desert Flyer's "Fun Fly" Feb. 18, 2023

While Steve was at the fun fly, Debbie and I went into town to do laundry. We had been told that Saturdays are usually their least busy day and boy, were they right today! We decided to use the dryers rather than hang our laundry and while we were waiting for our clothes to dry, there was barely a sole in there!

We are finally heading into a few days of warmer weather...into the 20's C/70's F the forecasters say! Sweet! Although a chilly start this morning, it warmed up quite nicely.

Harry and Vicki invited us, along with Jim and Barb, over for happy hour. Vicki has the recipe and ingredients for Mint Juleps so wanted to give them a try. They were very good but pulled quite a punch!
Of course, we had to wear "fancy" hats for the occasion, just like they do at the Kentucky Derby, LOL! This is Harry's Creosote Bush creation...he needed a trim!
The rest of us all had hats on too...but not quite as extravagant as Harry's! Not the best selfie but the sun was in my eyes and I couldn't see the screen...
Barb also tried a recipe for Beer Margarita's...they were delicious too, but I forgot to get a picture!

Once it got chilly, Harry brought out the propane firepit...
Another great night! So glad they made it to Q this year...nice to spend time with them as who knows when we will be in Q again. Sadly this may be the end of an era. We will definitely be back at some point (likely not next season) but won't be spending as much time as we have in the past.

Sunday (Feb. 19) was a sunny day with fairly calm winds but, as usual, a cold start. I went with Steve to the Quartzsite Desert Flyers Field where they are having a swap meet. Steve wanted to sell a few things that he no longer needed. He has already sold his Apprentice Plane to Jim (and Buddy) who wanted it for his brother.
I went for a short walk along the paved path near the field then joined Steve back at the airfield. He managed to sell a couple of small items but not the main items he was hoping to get rid of.

The rest of the day was pretty lazy...reading, crocheting. Steve also chopped some firewood and got the firepit ready for a campfire tonight.

Then it was Core Crash time! Vicki taking a turn...
Cheryl, Dave, Colan, Marilyn, Jim, Vicki, Jim Nelson, Barb, me...with Harry taking his turn and nailing the one he wanted...
After the games were over, Jim and Barb went and got Dakota and Zoey...and Jim went and got Buddy. It is so funny watching Buddy and Zoey chase each other. Boy can they run! Here they are puffing away and resting on Jim's lap...
Steve parked the truck to block the wind and we roasted hot dogs for dinner and had a great visit around the campfire. This is only the third campfire we have had this season! We've had so much cooler weather and wind this season!
First thing Monday (Feb. 20) morning, Steve took his drone up...he wanted to get a final video of our new arrivals and everyone's locations to one another. Here is the short 2:13 minute video...
Jim and Barb are leaving this morning, so they came over, along with Harry and Vicki, and we had a nice final visit.
Of course, I gave Zoey and Dakota treats...here is Zoey staring at the bag just inside the door. I guess she was willing them to magically come out...or I'd see her and give her more LOL
Next thing we knew, it was time for Jim and Barb to leave. So very glad you were able to make a stop here. Wonderful seeing you both! I guess it's our turn to go to South Dakota for our next visit.

Steve worked on picture editing for the rest of the morning and then at 1:30 we headed out on the quads to Beer Belly's to meet Claude and Theresa. They are camped across the highway in La Posa Tyson Wash and had popped over for a visit in December...with promises of getting together again soon, next thing we know it's 2 months later! OMG, how did that happen? Sorry we didn't get a ride in with you guys.
We spent almost 2 hours catching up with them...It was fabulous seeing them again!

It was so warm that we were able to ride our quads home without our hoodies on...awesome! And we quickly changed into shorts, and sat outside with Marilyn and Colan...Dave also joined us a little later.

Tuesday (Feb. 21) another wind advisory had been issued....."Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 to 55 mph expected. From 5pm this afternoon to 5 pm Wednesday". Wonderful...more wind, ugh!

Steve pumped, dumped, and filled the trailer with water...but it took him almost 3 hours. The line-ups were terrible! The only reason we can think of is it's because of the big wind storm coming, and the end of a long weekend. While he was number 8 in the lineup there was nobody behind him for the longest time. Then when he got to the front of the lineup the couple at the dump moved as slow as molasses even filling and dumping 4 buckets of water flushing their tank...a no, no when it's busy. Steve said this was the second time he's been stuck behind these idiots. When Steve was done he said the lineup was  quite long.

Steve had also spent part of the morning securing things outside including moving the truck next to the door side of the trailer prepping for the storm. By late morning, the wind had started to whip up...and it got stronger and stronger! It was coming from the south so we had to close our door to keep the dust out. The wind basically rocked the trailer all afternoon, evening and night! So tired of wind!
