It's hard to believe that 2 weeks have gone by since we arrived here in Q! Most of the time...well at least the first week was spent getting set up and settled in for the winter. On Thursday (Nov. 25) our neighbours left, so we moved over to the larger site...
Although cloudy the day of our arrival, it has been beautiful blue skies, sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures since we got here. It was quite windy our first 2 days but since then, we've had a breeze off and on but not bad at all.
On Friday (Nov. 26) we rode our quads to La Paz where the poop-mobile was stored for the summer...a long slow ride back as there were an extra 2 barrels on top and one of the straps holding them on kept coming off requiring half a dozen stops.
That afternoon we decided to take a ride into Q and check out Beer Belly's Adult Day Care. I can see it being our main spot for "going out" as it is open-air...at this point, we don't feel comfortable with indoor settings.
Saturday (Nov. 27) we went into town and did laundry...wash and dry, since we didn't have the clothes line set up yet. After that, Steve sterilized the fresh water barrel...
The barrel on the right is for fresh water (Before) and the one on the left is for the grey and black tanks (After)...
Sunday (Nov. 28) we had our first gathering and felt comfortable enough with each other to give hugs all around (everyone vaccinated and most also had their booster)...Donna and Allen, Dale and Ruth came over for happy hour. So wonderful to finally catch up with some of the Q crew!
More chores Monday (Nov. 29) but by the end of the day, Steve decided to get his glider out and give it a try...it has been a long time!
Tuesday and Wednesday, a few final set up chores...the clothes line went up! And Christmas decorations. Merry Christmas with Santa Flag...The very first Christmas decorations we were given...solar Santa from Charlene and Dennis...and the tiny Christmas tree from Earl and Allison...
Angela and Chris gave this to us 3 years ago when Isaac was born...love it!
The tree and lights up inside...
The tree and lights up inside...
And the lights on the trailer outside...
We also went into town to check out the vendors but unfortunately not many are here yet. Hopefully more arrive soon...I understand that the numbers were way down last year (which is understandable). After a little drive around town, we stopped at the "new place"...The Horney Toad Saloon and Grille. It's an outside place which is nice...and also has $2 draft beer...bonus! LOL
Thursday (Dec. 2) was our first "real" ride out on the quads. Gold Eye Mine...
Erdman Cabin...
Look at all those toilet flower pots!
A few Go Pro pics from our video as we head into the valley to the Foot Print...
Steve thought he Saguaro on the left looked like Gumby welcoming us...if you're old enough to know the flexible toy...LOL!
We've seen Bighorn Sheep in this valley on previous rides but not today...
Arriving at the Foot Print which is in the dry creek bed below...
Large quartz veins in the rock...
These appear to be from fingers as the person climbed the rock...
On our way back to take the cabin to cabin route...
Stone cabin ahead...
Time for a short break...
Then we're off to the next stone cabin...
Trails everywhere!
The second stone cabin...
And another short break before heading off to guess where????
Of course, after our ride we had to stop at Beer Belly's Adult Day Care to wash the dust down!
Friday (Dec 3) was my birthday! I received many wonderful FB birthday wishes, texts and phone/video calls...I was definitely feeling the love!
Steve pumped and dumped in the morning and then we boxed up our helmet radios to send back to Maxon/ChatterBox to have them checked out...they have been great radios but both stopped charging while plugged in. Hopefully it is something simple and inexpensive...perhaps the batteries or charging cords? Interesting how they both stopped working at the same time.
That afternoon we rode to Beer Belly's Adult Daycare for my birthday lunch...burgers and beers!
Saturday (Dec. 4) we drove to Parker...we started with lunch at Stroke's Bar and Grill. They now have a former outdoor seating area that is completely enclosed except one wall that has a sunscreen.
After stopping for diesel, we headed over to the CVS Pharmacy where I had made appointments this morning for our COVID Booster shots. Then we had shopping to do!
Views of the Colorado River as we drive back into Parker after lunch...
Lots of RV Parks on the California side...
Cool rides!
Needless to say, it was after 5:00 by the time we got home...but look who had arrived this afternoon! Colan and Marilyn are parked across the road and down a bit...we enjoyed a cocktail while catching up!
We didn't do much Sunday (Dec. 5)...lots of puttering around. Steve worked on picture editing and also decided to get his "big" RC plane out and take it for a flight out behind us on the other side of the wash...
After 21 months of no flying he got it back down in one piece! That afternoon Fred and Terry joined us for happy hour. So great chatting and catching up with them...no picture though (we're slipping! LOL)
Earl and Allison, our friends from Vancouver Island, arrived Monday (Dec. 6). After getting situated in the spot beside us, they came over for happy hour...Colan and Marilyn also joined us. Again no pics!
As it was a travel day we cooked a pork tenderloin dinner for Earl and Allison...so good to have them with us! We see many game nights of Rummikub in our future...
Unfortunately on their trip south they had to put their beloved dog, Abbey down. She was such a sweetheart and will be sorely missed 💔...
Tuesday (Dec. 7) morning we actually slept in until 7:00! We haven't done that for a long time! We were greeted with our first spectacular sunrise!
The cloud we had this morning that created the beautiful sunrise increased and it ended up being a rather cloudy chilly day! So different from what we had been experiencing...but a look at the forecast indicates that we are going to start having more seasonal (cooler) temperatures towards the end of the week. We've been experiencing temperatures in the high 20's C/ 80F.
Earl came over to try and figure out what I had done to my laptop...somehow I had done something where I no longer was able to get a network connection. Thankfully he figured it out, repaired it...and voila...the Wi-Fi was working again! Thank you Earl!! Now, if the internet service here would just improve!
As it was cooler out we ended the day sitting around the Campfire-in-a-Can with Allen and Donna, Colan and Marylin, and Earl. It's so nice being able to safely gather in small groups and enjoy some socializing!
Wow I'm not used to seeing your hair so straight. lol You must be loving the dry heat. :)
ReplyDeleteHAHA! Yes, definitely!
DeleteMust feel good to be down there in the sun doing what you guys love so much. Quads, HH's, Beer Belly's and friends!
ReplyDeleteYes…especially after missing last year.
DeleteHow nice to be back!! Having a good time already! Glad you enjoyed your birthday and we can't wait to try out the new pub!
ReplyDeleteIt almost feels like coming home. The new pub didn’t have many customers when we were there and doesn’t have the same ambience as Beer Belly’s but hey…$2 beer!
DeleteLooks like funtimes for sure. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Glad to be back!
