Friday, November 21, 2014 (Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Lukeville, AZ)

We had a pretty laid-back kind of day today. The forecast was for a little cooler temps with some cloud and possible rain...the clouds made for a beautiful sunrise...

It was one of those mornings where we putz'd around and next thing we knew it was noon! So we packed a lunch and decided to head out for a drive. The mountains are looking pretty spectacular today...

There were a couple of waysides along highway 85 as we headed in the other day that we thought we'd go check out. We discovered waysides are like rest areas without toilet facilities. Our first stop was at Tillotson Peak Wayside...where there are a couple of interpretive displays describing the landscape.

Tillotson Peak...

Then we continued north...

...to Ajo Mountains Wayside...where we ate our lunch and then headed back south.

With the look of those clouds, we hummed and hawed about continuing the 6 miles past the turnoff to the campground to check out Lukeville...
But we decided to go for it...

The border crossing into Mexico is at Lukeville. As a matter of fact, there really isn't much else there other than a big gas station and restaurant.

We turned around and headed home...and that was the extent of our outing today. We spent what was left of the afternoon outside in our chairs relaxing and reading. At about 5:00, when the sun went down, we retreated inside...wow, that was a fast day!
