Friday, October 17, 2014 (South Beach State Park, Newport, Oregon)

The sound of rain drops on the trailer roof woke us in the wee hours of the morning...yup, I guess the forecasters were right. It rained off and on...well, mostly on...for the whole day. What a change from yesterday's beautiful sunshine!

We changed our plans for the day...instead of sightseeing up the coast, we decided to wait for a day or two when the chance of precipitation was 20 or 30% instead of 100%. Today, we thought that we would take a drive into Newport and pick up a few things at Walmart.

It was going on 11:00 by the time we were ready to head out. But first we thought we would go across the street and meet Marsha and Bernie, fellow RVillage members staying here in the park. As a matter of fact there are three of us staying here right now. Cherie and Chris of Technomadia are just down the road too. (If you ever wanted to know about technology on the road they have all the answers.) Steve recognized their vintage motorhome when we arrived yesterday and we left our card on their door when we went for our walk. As we were sitting chatting with Bernie and Marsha, they happened to walk by so Marsha and Bernie called them in to meet us. We chatted for a bit and then made plans to get together for happy hour at our place later this afternoon.

On our way into Newport, I took a few pictures of Yaquina Bay as we drove over the bridge...

On our way to Walmart, we had noticed a kite store, so after our shopping trip, we stopped at The Kite Company to take a look. The sales lady recommended a moderately priced sport kite so after a lesson on assembly and tips for flying we now have something to have some fun with this winter... on the beach or the windy desert! Steve would love to have a quad-copter but the kite is more within our budget. He will just have to continue living vicariously through you Dave (hdrider) and your toy.

On our way home, we took a drive through Newport's Historic Bayfront District...very cool, we will definitely be stopping here to explore when the weather is better.

Shortly after 4:30, Bernie and Marsha came over, followed a few minutes later by Chris and Cherie. We enjoyed a fabulous evening getting to know fellow full-time RV'ers! It was just after 7:00 when everyone departed. Cherie and Marsha...
Chris and Bernie...

Thanks for the group photo Cherie...

I'm sure our paths will cross again...
