Saturday, August 23, 2014 (Peter Hope Recreation Site, Quilchena, BC)

We had an absolutely beautiful start to the day today. Steve spent time out on the lake fishing...it was so calm...

This afternoon, we decided to get out on the quads for a little exploring of the area. Using BC Backroads Maps, Steve had mapped out a route to take and downloaded it to our GPS's...it was noon when we headed out. We continued south on Peter Hope Lake Road and once we were past the lake, we started climbing...

Rather than taking the main road to Glimpse Lake, we found a trail that took us to the lake. There is quite a developed little community of cabins and summer homes along one side of the lake along with two BC Recreation Site campgrounds.

This is the entrance to the north Rec Site...

'Wildlife' in the campground...

We went in search of a geocache...and found it!

This is the view from where we found the geocache...

The entrance to Little Beaver Creek Ranch at Glimpse Lake...

The entrance to the south Rec Site...

...and the view from the boat launch, looking across to the cabins on the north side...

We went in search of another geocache but couldn't find this one. We figured it must be gone since the last log showed that they couldn't find it and it has been over a year since it was last found. We continued along the trail hoping that we would be able to get back out to the main road...our plan was to try to go around the lake. The trail came out into a big open field of tall dry grass. We could see the road down below, but decided to backtrack through the campground to the road...we didn't want to take the chance riding the quads through the dry grass, the last thing we wanted to do was start a grass fire!

Back at the main road, we continued along the road, entering Douglas Lake Ranch land...

We found the road that we thought would take us along the south side of Glimpse Lake and eventually to Blue Lake...

...but it ended here at a camp of some sort...not sure what it is called, but it looks like a Scout camp with a cookhouse (that had a sign telling visitors to wash their dishes when finished), a couple of other buildings, along with picnic tables and lots of outhouses.

It's on the south side of Glimpse Lake...

We tried another road that we thought might take us to where we wanted to go but we came across a gate so decided to turn around...besides the road had become quite overgrown with tall dry grass so we abandoned our attempt to ride around the lake and went back the main road.

We've seen lots of open range cattle but rarely horses....

We're back on the north side of Glimpse Lake....

Once out of the community, the road gets quite rough.....more 'wildlife'...

We finally made it to Blue Lake. Steve and Ray are eventually going to bring their float tubes here and try their luck...

We took an old road that went along the opposite side of the lake that also had a couple of very rustic camping spots.

We continued on to our final destination... Little Blue Lake....

The trail was a little gnarly in spots..

A very small campsite at Little Blue Lake...

But we eventually found our way out to the main road back towards Peter Hope Lake.
Peter Hope Lake...

We were back home by 3:30...a great afternoon out on our quads! After getting cleaned up, we joined Deb, Ray, Kristi and Jason for happy hour...ahhh....
