Saturday, February 16, 2013 (Plomosa Road, Quartzsite, AZ)

We woke to another gorgeous day.  We are really cherishing the wide-open clear blue sky and sunshine of Arizona right now because we know our days are numbered...we will be heading north soon.

At 9:00 a.m. we left the fifth-wheel each armed with a paper plate and cutlery...we were going over to the "Solo Cafe" for breakfast.  Gina loves cooking outdoors on her outdoor kitchen and has been doing up breakfast for the other "solos"...all with their RVs situated together.  There are four solo ladies...Gina, DJ, Kyra and Arlene...as well as two fellows, brothers actually, each in their own motorcoach...Jim and Paul.

Kyra making the morning cocktails..."marmalade's"...orange liqueur and tonic with a slice of orange...nice!

Soon Howard joined us...he has been enjoying breakfast everyday at the "Solo Cafe". He and Linda have a busy morning today...they will be setting up their equipment in the back lot of a gas station in Quartzsite to do some rig weighing.

After a delicious breakfast (thanks so much Gina!), we headed back to our rig to get ready for a quad ride.

We headed out just before 11:00 taking a trail that paralleled Plomosa Road going east.  We wanted to see if we could find the ancient Fisherman Intaglio that is in the area.

This was a steep very rough downhill section...not sure if I'm gonna like having to go back up it on our way back...

We came across some sand dunes...

We didn't find the intaglio but instead we found rocks laid out in the desert for airplanes to see, spelling out 'QUARTZSITE' and forming an arrow pointing the way.  Apparently this area, north of Quartzsite, was used as a training ground for General Patton's troops during World War II.  Not what we were looking for, but interesting just the same.

I even found a geocache in the area...

After that, we thought we would see if we could find a trail that went up into the mountains.  We followed lots of trails but each seemed to dead-end and we'd have to turn around...but there was lots of great scenery...
...and interesting rocks...

We stopped to explore this hillside...it had some interesting caves.

This cave has an opening at the far end at the top...

This one seemed to have the remnants of a bees nest...just a guess...

Another dead-end...with a lovely vista...

Back down we go...

Here I come...

No, I didn't like having to go back up this steep, uneven hill...but I made it!

After about 4 hours, we were home...what a great ride! We got cleaned up and changed into shorts and then I left Steve to load the quads back into the truck while I went over to join the group in the town oval...Linda was teaching beading and a few ladies were also braiding T-shirts.  I thought I would give braiding a try...

Afterwards, we took a cocktail over and joined the solo ladies for happy hour...then it was time to head home for dinner.  While I was preparing dinner, Steve took this picture of another beautiful sunset...

We ended our day sitting around the campfire...
