Thursday, September 1, 2011 (Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta)

I was awake really early for some reason this morning.  After lying in bed hoping to get back to sleep, I finally gave up and decided to get up.  It was only 5:15 a.m.!!

I could still hear the rain outside and when Steve got up at 6:30 and opened the blinds...yup...still totally socked in.  It is supposed to clear up...or at least improve...by this afternoon.  I hope they are right!
Well, it was a lazy morning...other than our resistance exercises, that is!  It was noon by the time we started seeing bits of blue coming through some breaks in the clouds.  But wind...holy cats!  And there were still some very ominous clouds hanging over the mountains to the south.  So much for all the hiking trails we were going to explore...or the bike riding we were going to do while here!  We were even going to check out going horseback riding for a day.  Nope, the crappy weather has put an end to all that.  We are leaving tomorrow...oh well, we got 2 nice days here in the park.
At about 1pm we finally decided that we should get outside and do something...so we ended up going for a walk into town.  Steve took lots of pictures...
This part of the campground is pretty empty right now...
There is the boat we were on last Monday...out on it's 1pm tour...
We walked along the lakefront path...
A beautiful lakefront log home...
This is the back...or lakefront side...of the Bayshore Inn...
...and here is the front...
Nice fish...
The Waterton Heritage Centre...

Some pictures taken around the "downtown" area...

There were some major whitecaps on the water...

This little fellow was in our 'front yard'...

About an hour later...and totally windblown...we were back at the trailer.  Steve decided to go out to the truck and program more stations into the Sirius satellite radio.  I didn’t do much other than “play” on the laptop doing some research of places down south...yup, I’m starting to think about heading south!

That was pretty much it for the day...nothing too terribly exciting.  We couldn’t even sit outside because it was just so very windy out. The trailers a rock’n and we even noticed fresh skiffs of snow in the mountains...is summer over....already! We even had to change what we had planned for dinner because it was too windy for the barbeque!
We are looking forward to the Crowsnest Pass...we are booked in for the long weekend at Crowsnest Mountain Resort  just west of Coleman, Alberta.  They advertise being able to ride your ATV right from your RV site...should be fun.  We have also contacted the Quad Squad, the local ATV club, and hope to join them on a ride...or two!
