Sunday, September 4, 2011 (Crowsnest Mountain Resort, Coleman, AB)

We were up bright and early this morning.  It was another beautiful clear morning...but again, cold!  Steve chose not to wear his long johns and heavy socks today because it warms up so much by the afternoon...but I just couldn`t do it...I wore my long johns but ditched the heavy socks (I just didn`t want to be cold on the start of our ride).

We were on our way shortly after 8am...and after stopping to fuel up the truck in Frank, we retraced our trip home last night.  We saw some deer on our way this morning...

We made good time, arriving at the camp at about 9:45...plenty of time to load the quads with our lunch and extra coats.  I usually layer up...even wearing my raingear jacket as a wind break when we start out in the morning.  As usual, by our first stop, I quickly took it off...and then at the next stop, another layer came off.  By mid afternoon, I just had a light jacket on...and really wore it more for protection from branches than for warmth.
There were 9 quads on the ride today and it was another amazing day!  Here are pictures taken throughout the day...
Nope, we didn`t take that bridge...looks like some repair work is in order...

Our first stop was a pretty little spot beside a river...

More beautiful scenery...

We stopped at the top of this windy ridge...

You can see the trail we will be taking through the mountain in this picture...
And off we go..

We made it through the pass and to the top...from this point we are looking from Alberta into BC and are on the Continental Divide...
Amazing mountains...

Can you see the trail that we came in on...and have to go back out on...

Getting ready to head back the way we came in...

That big boulder on the right has a plaque on it...

Back into the trees...

We stopped on one of the trails for lunch (the quad coming in the opposite direction is one of a group that passed us)...

We stopped at a snowmobile cabin...in the winter, there is a supply of firewood and so the snowmobilers can stop and warm up...

At this point, five of the quads decided to head back to camp, leaving Mark, Joe, Steve and I to ride for another hour or so...more incredible scenery and great trails...

Poor Mark ended up getting something in his eye...he had a heck of time...

We arrived back at camp at 4:30...another good day’s ride!  We loaded up our quads and then went down to join everyone for a beer.  After a great visit, Steve got a group picture...we wish to extend a special thank you to the Quad Squad for two of the best riding days we have had!  Thank you to Mark, our trail guide and to Joe, the tail-gunner!  And for all the hospitality extended to us during our visit...thank you, Karl!  And Julie, in the Quad Squad Office, thanks for answering our email and giving us driving directions to the ‘camp spot’.

There are so many more trails to explore in this area...I think we will definitely have to return one day.
