Sunday, September 11, 2011 (Fort Steele Resort & RV Park, Fort Steele, BC)

Steve was up and out by 8am this morning...the first thing he wanted to do was climb up onto the roof and wax the top of the rounded edge at the back of the trailer.  Bare feet on the roof of the trailer...brrr...he quickly got that done and was back inside warming up.

It is pretty darned chilly out there before the sun comes up over the mountain...but we were out there hard at it!  It didn’t take long to warm up once the sun was out in full force...we were soon shedding the sweats and back into our shorts and t-shirts.  What a glorious stretch of weather we have been having!
We worked on it the whole morning, getting the side done as well as the strip over the awning. All that is left to do now are the bits above the sliders and under the overhang at the front.  But that was enough for today...this afternoon, we are going to check out the steam train at the Fort Steele Heritage Town.

Instead of taking the truck over, we decided to ride our bikes...and we are really glad we did.  The parking lot was packed...they even had vehicles parking in the field.  Obviously, the Kootenay Country Fair is very popular!
We went for a ride on the steam train...it takes about 25 minutes and stops at a viewpoint of the Kootenay River Valley.
These fellows went by as we were waiting for the train to leave...
And we're off...there are 3 cars being pulled by the steam engine...the middle one (that we are on) is completely open...
This is the third one (behind us)...
Once stopped at the viewpoint, the engine does a "blow-down" to rid the boiler of any contaminants...
Beautiful view of the river valley...

Now we're on our way back...
 ...and we're back...
We stopped to get a close-up look at the engine...

After the train ride, we checked out a trapper’s cabin...

There was also a car rally with a lot of sporty and expensive looking sportscars...unfortunately most were gone by the time we got back from our train ride...

Those are our bikes locked up against the fence on the left...

We were back at the trailer shortly after 2pm...and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing outside in the shade.  I managed to get our last couple of (rather uneventful) days posted on our blog.

Later on, Steve made some phone calls to family back home...and we gave Chris a call and had a nice chat with him.  After a bit we headed inside to watch the evening news and get dinner going.
