Monday, February 7, 2011 (Bayou Segnette State Park, New Orleans, LA)

It looked so promising outside this morning as the sun came out and the temperatures rose but next thing we knew, the wind came in...bringing a heavy cloud covering and colder temps....so much for our “mainly sunny” day!

We had our usual leisurely start to the day and after our exercises, showering and breakfast, decided to just stick around here today. We‘ll go for a bike ride around here. So while Steve unloaded the bikes from the back of the trailer and got them ready (one of the new tires on his bike were flat!), I did a little research on the internet. One thing we have not gotten after Christmas is getting our new bikes...which are supposed to be our Christmas present to each other....hmmm...we’re going to have to stop long enough someplace along the way and do that. New bikes...and a new mattress for our bed!

It was around noon when we took a nice long ride on our bicycles. We went all the way back to the park gate...new “tags” with the gate code are issued every Monday so although we just checked in yesterday, we need to get the updated tag that goes in the truck. Of course, we didn’t take the old one with us and of course they need it back...oh well...we’ll get it tomorrow as we leave the park to go to the French Quarter. We road through the huge day use area....

After our ride, we warmed up in front of the fireplace watching TV and then I decided it would be a perfect opportunity to do a couple of loads of laundry. So I gathered the laundry and made the short walk through the bayou (on a boardwalk) to the laundry room (housed in the same building as the showers). There are 2 washers and dryers...that are very old and finicky...but free! The washers took over an hour but seemed to do a good job. Needless to say, laundry took up the rest of the afternoon.

And that was pretty much our day...we were getting all rested up for our day in the French Quarter tomorrow....
